Sorry if this topic was already covered. I have read and didn't see it. I have a 2003 vibe with the cd changer and 6 speakers. I want to buy an aftermarket head unit so I can have an mp3 player. If I use an aftermarket head unit will all 6 speakers still work? I was planning to install the radio myself. I have done a few installs but they did not have 6 speaker systems or stock amps so I'm not sure if there is anything extra I would have to do to set that up. I didn't buy a radio or anything yet. I did read something about older metra wiring kits missing a wire. But I wasn't sure, if I use a wiring kit, will it power the amp and therefore all 6 speakers? Thanks.

ok thanks for the reply. One more question. I read through that thread. So if I get an aftermarket head unit and keep the stock amp and speakers, will I have a problem with the head unit heating up because the speakers are 2 ohms and the head unit is 4 ohms? I read one person say the amp prevents that problem. I just want to make sure. Thanks.
I was at this same crossroad wanting an IPOD input when I searched out this thread http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...age=1. Instead of replacing "the works" (which M&T was an expensive upgrade), I added an IPOD (line-in) to the existing 6 disc changer. It cost me $3 at Radio Shanty and some scrap network cable. I've since added a pair of 10" subs, and can connect the kids DVD player sound through the car audio line-in. The backseat movie viewers can get slammed by the audio now, better than the theater! That's with the stock 6 disc head unit and stock M&T amp (+plus my sub add-on).

RePo thats awesome! Thanks for sharing your success story. I have been thinking about getting a kenwood head unit that you can connect a usb device to... an mp3 player or thumb drive or hard drive and it plays mp3 cd's. My thing is I really want to play mp3 cd's. I dont car as much about connecting an mp3 player although that would be cool. I thought about just adding an mp3 cd changer to the aux. So how does your setup work, you use the aux button to play your ipod? Do you need to empty the 6 disk cd changer to use aux? Since aux and cd are the same button. I was also wondering but couldnt find the answer, if I had a cd changer in the back that had the ability to feed the cd text, song title and stuff to the head unit, will the stock radio display the text? I have the same radio, 6 disk changer, Im doubting it will. I will probably end up getting the kenwood head unit for that reason. Thanks!
These head units don't appear to read the CD Text, so when playing CD's the display just reads Track 1, I'm sure yours is the same. I wired a 1/8" headphone jack in the center console, so that when there is no plug in it the CD plays normally. When the plug from my IPOD (or anything, laptop, DVD) is pushed into the jack, I hear that source through the head unit. The HU still thinks it's playing a CD, but I hear my line input feed instead. The AUX button on the head unit serves no purpose whatsoever, and I've searched out all the info I could here and AUX2CAR. Photo isn't that great, but you'll see where the IPOD is jacked into the center console in this shot.
