I'm trying to install the factory aero crossbars, but it appears that either the front or rear plastic pieces on the OEM rails need to be removed first. How do I do this without breaking something? TIA
if you stick a little flat blade screwdriver under the end of the rear cap and pop the cap off. if you grab the cap with your other hand and lift while prying with the screwdriver it will pop right off, inside the plastic cover is a yellow round clip. don't loose them. the roof rails then should slide right in the track.
Thanks for your help; I thought it would be something simple like that. So, here's what happened: I very carefully pried up the back of the cap, and gently lifted it up. It separated with a loud "crack". The yellow clip you described remained on the vehicle, and the plastic that was supposed to hold it on the cap has broken. Any idea how I can fix this? Is there some kind of epoxy that I can use to glue the clip back into the cap?
Try searching next time. I did a search for "crossbar" and brought up the link to the roof rack removal how-to. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=20121 You would just be doing it in reverse. The search tool is your best friend. If I saw this earlier I would have posted it. Not sure what you could use to fix it though. Good Luck
