Is there any good reason one might want to keep the use of the O/D on/off button on the PRNDL? (I was watching Disney channel the other day with a friend and one of their shows made reference to the gearshift as the PRNDL...)Anyway, the reason is I'm wondering if I should try to find a shift knob with an O/D button or if I could, for all intensive purposes, disable the use of this feature.I'm asking because of a post in the Interior section that has gotten 44 views but no replies. Oh well!Just for reference: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=25575
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=15765 here is a thread on whether to use overdrive or not. your mpg will take a hit if you disable it. cars back in the 70's and 80 didn't have it. I've heard it referred to as a CHMSL before, and knew it meant the third brake light, but never knew what that stood for. Thanks! Stop Lamp... how creative As for the O/D, I've turned it off before, only to find that the engine revs higher and serves for better acceleration. (I've dragged against a couple friends before, shifting myself from L to 2 to D manually. I won to say the least.) I've also turned it off to get proper acceleration to pass on the highways. But I could see it serving a real purpose if I ever got stuck in mud or something like that, kind of like a locking rear differential...But as for general driving, I keep the O/D on for the purpose of electronic-induced shifting (increasing gas mileage).I guess I could just look for the shift knob I want and re-route the O/D button to a blank panel to the left of the steering wheel. Heck, that would be a good replacement for the "coin holder" that's there!
I would keep the O/D switch for sure... You may find yourself in need of increased engine braking someday... It really comes in handy when descending steep grades, and also in the snow but you don't have to worry about that part. Can't say I'd ever want to disable the overdrive, personally...

Yeah, I have turned it off before (as I have mentioned)Going downhill I usually just shift down... (only at speeds below 45)I'd like to keep it, it is useful to have in those cases where you would need to regulate engine power...Now I'll HAVE to look into putting it on the hatch button panel
