a bunch of lessons

http://www.theeagle.com/storie...3.phpQuote » Updated 7:06 AM on Monday, October 23, 2006Woman dies after car wreckBy CRAIG KAPITANEagle Staff WriterA Houston woman was arrested on intoxicated assault charges Sunday, but soon could be charged with a more serious crime following a one-car accident along Earl Rudder Freeway that resulted in the death of her friend.Authorities said Courtney Ann Alexander, 29, was driving northbound along the highway when she lost control at about 10:40 p.m. Saturday and flipped the vehicle. One of the Pontiac Vibe's two passengers, Houston resident Heather Lynette Sellars, was ejected from the vehicle - landing in a nearby ditch. She was taken to College Station Medical Center, where she was treated for internal bleeding, rib and spine fractures, head injuries and shock. On Sunday afternoon, she died.At the scene of the accident, which blocked both northbound lanes, Alexander told police she had been at a wedding about an hour earlier and had a couple of drinks, according to court documents. Later, she recalled consuming three margaritas and one beer, documents state.Police noted a "strong odor" of alcohol on her despite a strong wind. She told police she lost control of the vehicle after she hit a slick spot on the roadway while talking on a cell phone.Alexander, who gave a voluntary blood sample while at The Med, was released from jail before her friend's death Sunday. Bond was set at $8,000 for the intoxicated assault charge - a third-degree felony. Results of the blood test were not released Sunday.Authorities said the charge probably will be changed to intoxicated manslaughter, which is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.Another passenger - Spring resident Brandy Twyshelle Hernandez - also was taken to The Med on Saturday but later discharged.Drinking and driving cell phone use a contributing factor I assume that the victim, although a passenger, wasn't wearing a seat belt, in order to be thrown from the car when it flipped. The driver apparently sustained no injuries needing medical attention, the other passenger was treated and released. Apparently it was safer to stay in the car.one life ended, others completely screwed for stupid things. Be careful out there

yeah, but Randy is a responsible drinker, he is encouraging others to also be responsible, it is something he takes seriously, even if his post doesn't read that way

life long DD here... either out of necessity (other girls i partied with couldn't drive standard) or responsibility...& people wonder why i freak out about having more than one beer and driving... even if it's "over the course of the night" which is one of the stupidest excuses i've heard... and here's to seat belts and pulling over to talk on the cell phone (but i have been known to talk while driving, i won't lie)

I don't think the joke is appropriote DM... even if it wasn't ment that way.Why is it that those who drink and drive are often times the ones who survive to live with their mistakes? Its not right. It should be the other way around. If you really need to talk to someone while driving... get a hands free ear piece.

Man, I gues there WERE alot of lessons in this accident...I enjoy drinking, I wont touch a car after because of hurting others, but MAINLY because I don't want to damage my baby...what a stupid thing to do. If I ever get hit by a drunk and live, I will personally drag the drunk off, wait til they sober up, and then start sawing off limbs with a piece of the Vibe's fender Granted someone died, no one here knew them personally, so no one can be offended. I thought Drunken's comment was funny and I was definately pickin up what he was throwin down so I dunno what the fuss is about....as said in the Holy Grail "let's not bicker and argue about Whoo killed whooo...." Love that movie.
