Today made 3,000 miles!

Post by 808 Vibes »

It's now time for the first oil change! Today I also noticed an orange light that comes on when you're in the low gas zone The light went off for awhile, so I thought I could make it home, but when it came on again, decided to play it safe and find the closest station: it is currently $2.99 a gallon...92 octane. but only until the election-I suspect it's a teaser rate...like the introductory interest rates on credit cards My dealer left me a message to go to their 'car care clinic breakfast'. They give you free breakfast and handwash your car for FREE! Sounds good...and if I should happen to meet any other Vibe owners, I'll be sure to tell them about this site!

Congrats on the milestone, many happy more to go. The cost of operation sure does suck though! At least you're not racking up 3,000 miles a month like me. Let us know how the breakfast goes! That sounds like a really cool thing to go to.

Well, I called to try to make an appointment, and they told me 3,000 miles was too early? I've always done the 3 mo./3,000 mile service interval ever since I've been driving, but I guess that saves me $40- at least for now That's a funny new sig, C.P.

If 3,000 was too early, they would have loved hearing about my Vibe's first oil change. Did the first at 1500 and the second at 3000. I would go ahead and get it done, but that's just me.

Running 92 octane in an engine designed for 87 probably isn't a good idea. At best, it's a simple waste of money without any performance benefit; it would be better to fuel up with the right octange gas at a quality station (Chevron, etc.). At worst, the long-term use of high octane fuel in a non-specified engine can result in CEL's, failed oxygen censors, carbon build-up/"engine coking," EGR/DPMF failures and failed emissions tests.BTW: I learned that stuff personally by running 92 in a Ford Ranger engine for four years straight. What I thought was a positive preventive maintenance for my fuel system and engine turned into a CEL/emissions nightmare. Run the 87...

When I told them to Change it away, they where very confused. It's best to do it sooner than later. You can run what ever Octane you want as long as it's at or above the manufactures suggested rating. If you have a Base, or AWD, don't go below 87, and if you have a GT don't go below 91. Using 91 in a Base or AWD, doesn't help you go faster, just eats more money that way.

Really? I thought I read the manual say the twin cam engine should get 92 octane. I guess I'll have to do more reading... Yeah, they told me it was up to customer's preference whether to do the oil change now or not. I think the manual said 5,000 miles? I am so confused, LOL

Just the GT needs the good stuff. You can run whatever it is you want in the base but it won't do much of anything. I used to think it was better stuff so I'd run it, and in the Vibe, that car began to take a liking to it. It'd revolt when I dumped 87 octane in the tank. No more of that, I've only feed the new car 87 octane as it doesn't need or want anything better.

woo-hoo to Hawaii and the first 3000mi. yeah, i've been looking a lot at this gas situation... there's a page in the owner's manual that talks about what gas GM suggests... not something i've ever really thought about before. so i've been on the lookout for ANY top tier gas station and, well, ohio seems to suck for this. the closest station to me is 20 miles out of my traveling circle and with as much driving as i do, i'm not gunning to put MORE miles on for gas! just wondering if anyone knows if it's worth it to go out of the way for the gas with the extra additives???on my 3rd tank (not the 3,000 miles yet) of "get go" gas, i'll bet it's a PA/OH thing, but the VIBE just doesn't seem to like it as much as the old civic did.PS- i "checked" that little amber light by the fuel gage in week one of owning the Vibe... but when i filled up about 15 miles later, i only put in 10.5 gallons.

CP is right, the only vibe that needs to get that higher octane gas is the GT. Not much benefit to put higher octane, only ones who will benefit from that is the gas/oil companies.
