It sounds like it would for sure revert back if you were to disconnect the battery cable. Similar to when getting rid of the passenger seat belt beeping.Has it been holding for anyone else?Sounds like a great little mod if it would hold.

Settings that are programmed are retained, such as features installed on the vehicle, mileage, key fobs, etc. Learned data, such as transmission adaptive parameters, idle parameters and probably this position sensor reset when power is removed for long enough.

Well, they decided that my transmission operates "as designed". The technician owns a Vibe himself and said he experiences the same problem. They hooked up a Tech 2 and drove around, and it doesn't slip and all of the parameters are in spec, so nothing wrong. I'll just have to live with what is apparently Toyota's poor programming of the ECM's gear selection logic at that speed (otherwise it is flawless).

hmmm.... well, good to hear nothing was wrong. I had one of those hard shifts yesterday (I can't remember what I was doing) one of those slow down then accelerate type things but that's the only one I noticed so far...NewNeptune, is your car still accelerating/shifting smooth other than the problem you mentioned?
Well I tried this and it didn't fix the other problem I have. When I am driving slow, below 25mph, and I tap the gas a little, the RPMs go up when I hit the gas and drop way down after that. It makes the car hesitate for sure. I don't know if anyone else is having that problem or not.

sounds like the same thing NewNeptune is going thru.....Mine used to do this alot but since the DBW reset thingy it "seems" to have subsided. I still get a "jump/hesitation" every now and again, but not near as often as before.

It's quite strange, since I had to do the reset two or three times, but now it is holding. Even the torque converter unlock is smooth most of the time. It's been well over a week since the last reset and no change. Wierd, but I'm glad it's smooth.

I don't know if anyone else is having that problem or not. I'm not sure if mine does that. I'll have to try it out. I know that on the highway, let's say I'm going 75 MPH, which means that the RPMs are 3000, if I let off the gas and then press lightly, they come up to 3200 briefly and then back down to 3000. That's not what you're experiencing, right?Another irritating one I see (but I understand is normal) is if I'm going a city speed, say 40 MPH and let off the gas, RPMS drop waaay down (1200 I think) and then surge back up to 1600-1800.

I was referring to anything that "you" change on the vehicle, not what was installed and set/programmed from the factory or intended to be set/programmed by the user like the keyless entry or radio station presets. But, I always thought it was strange it would reset the time on your radio but retain your station presets.

The reason that the presets are held is because they are stored in non-volatile memory, but the clock requires work to maintain. Guess they were too cheap to put in a button battery to keep the clock going.

I have an automatic 06 base Vibe with approximately 23,000 kms. The transmission has not been shifting as smoothly as I think it should. The only time I notice this is when I slow down to make a corner and then accelerate and when I am slowing down for a red light and then accelerate before I come to a complete stop. When I do accelerate the transmission gears down very aggressively and then quickly gears up again. It's not nice and smooth like my 99 and 01 Sunfires are. My dealer told me it is all in the way I drive meaning it's my fault that car does what it does. When I went to a Toyota dealer he told me to do a hard reset of the computer and that should resolve the problem. The transmission learns your driving habits so once in a while you have to wipe the memory clean and start over again. I tried this a couple hundred of kms ago and have driven the car in such a manner as to teach the transmission to shift under normal, controlled acceleration. It this does not work then I will do another reset and perhaps drive a bit more aggressively to learn it that way. Trial and error. I will also try the DBW tip, Can't hurt. Something has to work cause I cannot see that the manufacture engineered the transmission to shift so god awful as this one does.
Hi,Old thread but I recently did this reset and it took away the overly sensitive pedal I always have had since the car was new. This was always most pronounced when starting from a dead stop.My vote...... it works!Dave
