hey, welcome to the site... ANOTHER Calgary member. This doesn't sound good. Do a SEARCH on 5 speed tranny and much bad news for you.Check that warranty- should be covered by powertrain hopefully

Check with a canadian dealership. The 2003 may not have the 100,000 KM warranty. However it does sound like you have a transmission bearing grinding in your transmission. Seems to happen with some of the 5spd. I'm at almost 40km on my 5spd and no noise yet. But with the way I drive I expect to should I keep the car for a couple more years...Maybe some of the GMVIS access members here in canada can run your VIN for you.

When I had bearing issues in my 5 speed, the car would move fine, but was just really noisy. yours if different, in that when you put it in gear, the car does not move. That sounds more like it could be a blown clutch. Also, the noise from a bearing going bad will develop over time, progressively getting worse. In your case, it happened all of a sudden, and bearings usually don't fail that way.Unfortunately, if it is a clutch issue, the dealer will say it is a wear item, even if you are under warranty. It is also possible that it is a blown CV joint, which would allow one axle to spin freely, so no torque gets to the wheels, and the car won't move. That would be better news than having it be the tranny or the clutch, and seems more likely to fail suddenly like your car did, and could be covered under warranty. Here is a thread about someone else who had a CV joint fail http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=23925and welcome to genvibe, sorry to hear about your troubles. When you do get it figured out, please be sure to post back an let us know what the cause of the problem turned out to be, and what the fix was
