Hey guys I am brand new to the forums and I am in the market of getting a new/used car. I have pretty much slimmed down my choices of cars between an 03/04 Grand AM GT or an 04 Vibe AWD. Problem is now I am really stuck in a perdicament because its becomming difficult for me to make a choice. I have always loved the look and feel of the Grand Am but only very recently investigated the Vibe. I have always driven SUV's like Blazers, Cherokees, or Jimmys. The issues I am having is going with an I4 (Vibe) vs the V6 (Grand Am). I just hear too many horror stories of 4 cylinders dieing alot sooner than V6's. Any insight on what your opinions are? Feel Free to ask questions too. ThanksMike
huge difference in cars there! if power is what you want, the GA is the dead ringer. where about is crystal lake? i live right across the river from st. louis and had the awd, but it wasn't necessary due to barely having snow on the ground.

Welcome!!I don't really have much of an opinion about a Grand Am but one thing I can tell you is if you're used to driving a versitile car then you can't go wrong witht the Vibe Good luck with your desicion!
Wow Nice... Fast... Responses... God I love this! Crystal Lake is located no more then 30 miles from the Wisconsin Border between Rockford and Chicago. So driving in the snow is much necessary! This is the one I am looking at.http://bachrodtonstate.com/use...948b5
I am pretty sure I can get him down to 14 or 14500 out the door. The other thing is i have pretty craptastic credit so I have to find a place that can finance me (i have to put 3 grrr down as a down payment as well)...These guys can do it lol
Have you checked Crystal Lake Pontiac? I bought my 05 there and they are great to work with. I have not checked their stock but it is closer than driving to Rockford... I love my Vibe, it has some nagging issues but no mechanical problems. The dealer also uses a bunch of Grand Ams as their loaners and I have not been impressed, the MPG is horrible compared to the Vibe and yes it is faster but that isn't as important to me, and the Vibe is quicker than I thought it'd be!!!
thanks VforVIBE.... I mean what I would want would be an AWD Vibe with lower miles then that one I listed but Id like the sunroof and all that good stuff ya know

LOL.... Trust me I noticed that too... By the way, hows the factory sound system? I work for best buy so no problem having everything upgraded, etc... but I always liked the OEM Head Unit....

i had the factory moons and tunes, and coupled with 2 12s in the back, it sounded great!the price is pretty steep on that AWD though.the thing was a blast in the snow, but it lacked real power.

Now my issue is I dont know if the one they are selling is AWD now... The featured tech specs says so but when you look at the Vin and decipher it using the VIN thingy on the forums it links to a base vibe...What about this one?http://www.getauto.com/autolin...57305I just dont know how it will handle in the snow...
Stories of four cylinder dieing a lot sooner? I have put 200,000 miles on many 4 cylinders and they were still running. It all depends on how you take care of the engine or any for that matter. With a Grand Am 3.4L V6, you should be concerned of the intake gasket leaking and having issues with it because there are and have been. I know a few people that have had them...My FWD Vibe does just fine in the snow.
that last one says warranty= yes... but its also got 35,5XXwhich means the warranty might be up in less then 500mi. unless they have their own warranty on it?just a heads up if you look into that car.and WELCOME!

Well I think my decision is made to go with a Vibe... however im still sketchy on if I want to pay the extra $$$ to get the AWD (sunroof is just a plus IMO). But im near chicago.. where it definetly does SNOW!Because I found 2 that are around the same price as the last one just no AWD but 40,000 less miles...http://sullivan-pontiac.vinman...04226http://sullivan-pontiac.vinman...07337

I have no worries about 4 cylinder engines...I had an '88 Quad4 Grand Am for 14 years and the engine was still going strong when I had to part with her. I have no doubt that I'll have the same reliability and many years from my Vibe! Practical, fun, and great gas mileage!
