Vibe Demographics (Midwest vs South)

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

Okay, just an excuse to ramble, but my wife and I just got back from a trip to Milwaukee and I believe I saw more Vibes in the four days we were there than I see in a month down here in Houston. Couple of notes...Milwaukee has about 600,000 folks; Houston has over 2 million.Gas prices were about the same as in Houston. Why do y'all think there are a higher density of Vibes up north? Are we Texans really that truck/SUV crazy?

We're smart enough to realize what a great overall car the Vibe is up here! lol. j/k There are a lot of older people driving Vibe's/Matrix's up here as well. When I think of both MN/WI and TX, I think trucks and SUV's as well. Especially with our winters up here.Maybe you just hit a time period when there was a high concentration of Vibes in that area.

I don't know about north but I can sure say the south (apparantly) loves trucks In my town (population ~10k), I see around 5-10 vibes a day. The pontiac dealer here has had the same 06 (i guess) on the lot forever. poor little vibe I think I'm the youngest vibe owner in my town

We are in between the sizes of the two cities you mentioned (though our gas prices tend to be high) and I see far more Matrixes here than Vibes. In fact, the further south I go the more Vibes I see. Most of the people here driving them are elderly to middle-aged as well (except someone I go to school with, but that's another story). As for being "truck-crazy", I wouldn't think you have any more down there than we do up here. We've got far more SUV's than small wagons of the Vibe/HHR/Impreza type, and except for Camry's, Accords, Cobalts, and the like more mid-size SUV's/ PU's than cars too.

I live in a town of 2600. here the Vibe /Matrix ratio is about 16 Vibes to my Matrix, I would say that they are all oblivious to the fact they are essentially the same car. Most are mid 40s to seniors. I have been the only Matrix in this town since 2002. All the Vibes have the aluminum rims, the majority are monotone. We (as in the community) are predominantly a pickup truck town (farmers) followed by SUVs then larger cars. We have a Pontiac dealer in town and a majority of the cars in town are Pontiac. Kids drive Grand Ams and Gran Prixs, thier parents drive Bonnevilles

When I went to Michigan for the two Supermeets, I saw more Vibes on the interstate going from the motel to the dealership than Iowa City has in total. Demographics are weird. So far I have noticed that Omaha has only a slightly higher Vibe ratio that Iowa City. And Omaha is 10 times bigger.

Texas is also known as Truck Country, but in the last few years SUV have also taken over the roads. I see a lot more trucks and SUVs on my commute to work than cars.On the contrary, I've seen more vibes in Houston (at least 2 per day) than when I make trips up to San Antonio, where I'll be lucky if I see more than 1 when I'm there for the weekend.
