Well i got them yesterday and tried putting them in with a few friends but was not successful . The rear mount is really stubborn and very hard to get to, and as advised at matrixowners dont try to do this yourself unless youre a mechanic or have alot of patience. My father is helping me today with another friend of mine who also knows cars, and we should get it done easily now. On matrixowners those who have this mod say it greatly improves the overall smoothness in the car and it helps throttle response and smooths shifting greatly without all the lurching. I'll take some pictures and do a writeup since a alot of people asked.
yea i couldnt get the rear one in. Anyone know if i can drive to a shop with the rear motor mount loosened? the other 3 are on tight. the rear one, i cant get the holes lined up because i dont have an engine hoist and i got unluky with the way the motor dropped. Please dont respond telling me to try something liek jacking it cause i did everything. MadBill if your around, i have the bolt on the rear one half way thru so its somewhat holding it. you think i can drive carefully to a shop with it like that?
i would use a punch or something with a tapered end to get thru first, but the prob is there isnt enough room down there to do stuff liek that. its EXTREMELY tight and in a bad area. Can i drive it slowly to get to the shop?
Pretty sure if you have 3 on securely you can safely make it ot the shop if you drive slowly and carefully.I vaguely remember my brother taking his car in a few years ago for some noise and they said one of his motor mounts was broken. But yeah, I'd ask Bill to be sure...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
no it wouldnt help. i had 3 people pulling and pushing the motor while the other mounts were loose. it shifted just too much. doing these mounts is luck ill tell everyone how the difference is tommorow when i get the rear one put in. The other ones im gonna do myself.
Sorry to have been AWOL at the critical juncture, dimitri! (I was watching the tape of the Sebring Fla. GT race, where the new Cadillac CTS-Vs qualified on the pole and dominated the race, finishing 1-2 against Audis, Vipers, Bimmers, Porsches and yes, a gaggle of Covettes...)Here's a suggestion you might try that worked well on older GM V-6 front drivers: The rear bank of spark plugs were a bear to reach, so the factory had an extra hole in the "dog bone" top engine support. You were supposed to take the bolt out of the "normal" hole, pry the engine forward and slip the bolt into the "service" hole. This would leave enough space at the rear to reach the plugs. The slick trick was to use the engine's own torque to roll it forward. We would fire it up, shift to reverse and ease on the gas while holding the brakes. The engine would roll smoothly forward and an assistant could slide the bolt or a tapered drift into the new hole. If someone can safely access the problem mount, you might give this a try. (It helps to have three feet to do this on a manual, but you can use your toes on the gas and your heel on the brake) Otherwise, yes, drive carefully, with minimum throttle, and I'm sure you can make it safely to a shop. Good luck! PS 1.: If the threads are long enough, you might grind a taper on the end of the bolt so it's easier to slip in.PS 2.: Wonder how it would work if one used the new mounts in the other positions, and the stock one in the trouble location?
ah. ok well i drove it to my friend at 1320 performance and he got it alot easier on the lift. driving with the 1 mount out was fine, i just took it easy.the mounts are awesome, i honestly was doubtful about how it could change anything, but from the second i gave it gas to let the clutch up i felt the difference. everything is crisper, better throttle response, better overall clutch and shifting feel, torque delivery is really improved. Inside cabin vibrations are a little more, but not really bothersome.
Glad they worked out dmitri. The scuttlebut was that hard mounts would be a fix for wheel hop, so how does it behave now on a banzai launch? (assuming that you've burned rubber at least once )

That would be Wild Bill, not MadBill, Stang!(For the trivia-challenged, "aces and eights" was the poker hand held by Wild Bill Hickok when he was shot in the back of the head in the Deadwood Saloon. Ever since it has been known as a "dead man's hand")

lolyea im loving my motor mounts more every day, i love how they really improve the torque that you feel and the torque that reaches the ground...definitely improves your 0-60 especially if you have grippy tires.
i re read the matrix owners post and those guys mention only to mounts .you metion 4. its a left and right side per mount. did you get 8 pieces in the box.
look my sniggies, i had a strizz-oke in my brizz-ain okay, you know what im saying. so i cant move all good. but thanks for mentioning that .thank you very much.athf4evr. click here! you know you want to!!!

And has anyone came up with a step by step instructions on how to install the motor mounts with out it taking a full day.Are there any secrets or tips you found. I like to do my own projects to my car, but I am feeling alittle uneasy about this one by myself=(

do it yourself.1. Loosen all the mounts first, then remove all the bolts on the trans moutn and put a jack under the trans and jack up the motor and trans until you have space to access the rubber. 2. Go in from the top, take off the plastic cover that says vvtl-i and reach in and pull it out from the top. If you cant, just push in the inserts from the top reaching down.3. If youre having trouble getting the bolt back in, start the car and rev it a little so the motor can move around maybe back into place.4. Tighten and then do the front one.
Question 1: It looks like you put these on a GT. Are they for the base and GT? (I assume so, but figured I should check).Question 2: Where can I get them? PTuning.com is out of stock and has been for a while.

I know this is a old thread.... But has anyone else did this mod and what results have you seen after installing them?... Has anyone found an easier way to install or have them installed? How much was it to have them installed if you took it somewhere?
I just recived my mounts today and I am thinking of leaving to the pros to do I may even ask my gm dealer to do it. I know about the warrenty issue but if they do it, then there aren't any excuses about poor installation and besides it is an addition too, not a swap or change. I will ask them and let you know about the estimated installation time. And of course I will let you know if the claims for improved take offs are true.Spyder

The front mount is the most effective and easiest to do but if you do just the front, the back mount gets a lot of stress. Easy and cheap is to remove the front mount and fill it with silicone. It's soft enough (30-40 shore) to not screw up the back mount but still helps a lot with wheel hop. barely noticeable vibration difference. Down side is it takes 2 or 3 days to dry. The only down side to mounts is vibration and it's easier to stress the tranny because there's less give in the drivetrain.

So here is the story I have been thinking about the es-motor mounts for a while, Well I bought them from ptuning.com for 40CAN with shipping and only 5.55CAN for duties because UPS messed up. So I have read all the threads on installation and decided that I am going to leave it to a mechanic as I want to make sure that I wouldn't mess it up (I have been know to break things a few times until I get it right). So I called my GM dealer this morning and chatted with the service guy that I usually deal with and he had time to sneak it in so on bit of a compulsive urge, I dropped off my 2003 Vibe GT thinking that I would only have to pay for 1 hours work....that I could accept considering these guys were pros. I even printed off the how to posts and gave it to them to make sure they were doing as quick a job as possible. So two hours later and two hours work later (200CAN) I got my car back and WOW what a HUUGGGEEE difference. I mean huge. There is no more lerching/wheel hopping forward. Now as for the noise, I did notice some but it is not really louder engine noise, it is more like hearing and feeling your vibe or matrix purrr more . There have been a few comments about an increased engine rattle/shutter between 900rpm-1100rpm and I noticed that too. But, I think that is really due to the crap clutch setup in the car. Maybe others that have upgraded there clutches and have the es-motor mounts also can comment if that rattle/shutter still persists with a new clutch setup.I am really pissed abou two things.1. that I didn't do this sooner...it is so worth the purchase2. the cost of installation as they ended up taking off the shield to do the rear mount which doubled the labor charges. But after having it done I am not so pissed as the drivability is 100% better....afterall, it is for glory of a better ride. Any questions or comment for anyone needing more info PM me anytime.Spyder
That's really cool that your dealer put them in for you. Most dealers don't wanna deal with non-oem stuff. 2hrs for the installation is about average though.I've done many installations and it still takes me about an hour to do them.
Had mine put on today. I love it. You seem to be more in touch with the engine. You can feel the rpms and shift points. There is a bit more shake and rattle at idle but this just adds to the whole feel of the car.
So...lots of posts on how great these are immediately after installing them...How are people finding these after a year or two of using them? Especially when they are cold in the winter?ThanksTim
They don't replace the existing motor mounts, they are added to the stock mounts. I'm not sure but I don't think polyurethane is affected much by temperature. I guess I'll find out in a couple of months.
"A couple of months", Sunny? Aren't you the eternal optomist, living as you do, 100 km. North of anywhwere... (Although it was Southern Ontario and Northern NY that got up to two feet of snow yesterday... )
I am looking into grabbing a set of these.. do these really increase tranny damage?anyone want to give a review after ~1years worth of use? still awesome?
