SO i took my vibe to the body shop on Monday and was told it would be ready on WEdnesday. It was in too have some hood chips repaired and repainted. It is now Friday and I still wont see it till monday (hopefully) They are having issues with it curing the paint correctly (solvent pop) is the term they were telling me. It is now being repainted for the third time this week due to this weird flaw. At least they are not going to give it back unless its done right. They said it was just a weird freak occurance with this color paint and they way it is laying and curing.I really dont know exactly what they are talking about but at least they wont give it back unless they are satisfied. I know they want to give it back to me as soon as possible too b/c they are paying for my rental.

I'd also have the body shop note the problems with the paint curing on the invoice. That way, should you have problems in the future, there's documentation that they had issues painting it.

I had a problem like this. Said it was gonna be ready one day, wasn't. Came back in, wasn't ready again. I hated my rental. The only thing i liked about the Focus (my rental) was it had more pick up, other than that, I really dont know how that car got on the road....everything seems so...cheaply made. The car only had like 6000 miles on it and i couldn't believe how poorly it was running....either that or b/c its a rental car and people were probably beating the you know what out of it. But hopefully they fix everything right the first time

Oooh not a good word "solvent pop". when it dries the paint finish looks like the surface of the moon all kinds of craters. its a paint mixers problem. too much solvent in the mix.thats the problem with solvent based paint along with being soft.
Well i got my Vibe Back Monday the 16th! All Looks Great!!They said they were also having a "modeling" problem with the paint when they were having all those problems. BUt they got it all corrected and fixed and it looks good.
Glad to hear you got it back early! May I ask how much the hood work cost and what was involved? Was it a total strip/prime/paint job or just spot work?My car's in the shop right now as well, but the estimate for repainting my hood was over $500 (which would have been out of my pocket).
Actually, It was supposed to be a 3 day job from the begining and it was finally a week in total. The rental was ok it just didnt have all the bells and whistles I would have prefered like cruise control. 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer (It must have been really new less than 2000 miles on it). Low end pickup was really good the passing pickup lacked. They refinished the hood (not sure if it was total or partial) and blended into the fenders. the passenger side fender was refinished due to one of the damage locations. The total repair was just over $800. And included all the removing and reinstalling of headlights and fender flares stuff and replaced the gasket piece between flare and the fender.
