Power windows and lock out feature

Post by Tazz »

Hi All,My first post here. I just purchased a 2006 Vibe AWD. The one feature that I do not like is the way the windows all lock out when you push the lock out button. Is there a way to chage this so that only the rear windows are inoperable when the button is pressed. Quite often it is my kids in the back and my wife (or myself) as the front passanger. We have to lock out the windows as the kids can't keep there fingers off of the window controls. But the the front passanger person wants to roll down there window and can't because of siad lock out switch being pressed. Any ideas on changing this?TAzz

Could you just disconnect the switches in the back doors, or do the switches have to connected to complete the circuit for operation at the driver's door?

i think even if the window lock is on the driver can roll up and down windows. atleast all my ford's did that... (never had to lock the windows in the vibe yet), give that a shot.

But the adult in the front passanger seat (my wife or myslef) usually prefers to have control of there own window which is not the case when the window lock is on. Thanks for the reply.I'm acually suprized that this issue has never been brought up before...and not just on the vibe but on many other cars that also have all the windows lock out. My last hyundai was done just the way I would like it.TAzz

I don't think it effect the main controls and its really not that hard to do. Those switches just pop out.

The LOCK button works by killing the ground to all the other 3 windows (not drivers.) Even with the driver switches, the other 3 windows cannot be operated when locked. To change this, you'd have to modify the connections in the master switch assembly in the driver's door. Easier would be to change the wiring going to the passenger door, but that would mean the master switch wouldn't work any more.To sum up the changes, you'd have to disconnect the passenger window ground from the "after" side of the LOCK switch and connect it to the "before" side (direct to ground).
