Did something really stupid today

Post by tcam »

I was on an errand today, and when I pulled into my parking spot, I hustled out into the store that I needed to pick something up in. When I was in the store, I was talking to the desk-person and filling out papers, when some lady came in and said, "do any of you guys own that blue van out there?" I just assume that someone left there headlights on or something, but when i turn around, I see that my car had rolled back about ten feet and hopped a curb and was wedged in between a bunch of bushes. I'm instantly shocked, and I don't think I even said anything to the lady, and I just walked right out to go check on the Vibe. Luckily there were no serious problems, or marks. I got back in and considered callinga tow-truck, but managed to get back over the curb. I felt like such an idiot. And I can't believe how fortunate I was that my car didn't roll into the line-up of cars just behind me. That reeaaally would've sucked Anyways, I always leave my car in first and only put the e-brake on, if it is a noticeably steep hill. And this is the first time that I guess I left it in neutral. Is it possible for it to slip out of gear, or did I just make a really dum mistake?

wow... I always leave my manual in first and with the E-brake pulled all the way up. I've always done that with a manual transmission. Habit I guess.lucky for you and your Vibe that it all turned out ok. now baby that Vibe from now on. I bet its feelings are hurt for being refered to as a van lol

yeah, it's crazy that it ended up in the bushes, cuz if it had really gone straight back it would've nailed some cars. I'm sooo lucky that I had the wheels slightly turned.Quote, originally posted by Mavrik »lucky for you and your Vibe that it all turned out ok. now baby that Vibe from now on. In automatics, I only use the parking brake when parking on a steep hill.tcam, I have never had a problem with the car slipping out of gear, so maybe you accidentally left in in neutral, or perhaps the slope was steeper than you thought. Hopefully therre as no damage (other than to your ego ) A "van"?
