New Tire Recommendations 205/55 R16

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

Okay, I've got 32,000 miles on my Kumho Ecsta ASX tires and they've just about had it. I'm disappointed that I couldn't more miles, considering the 440 treadwear rating. Apparently, my results are about par for this tire.Anyway, I gotta get new ones this weekend and am looking for some options. I'd like V-rated or better, but that's not a requirement. I don't want to spend more than $125 a tire, so that limits me some.

Zuben, which ever tire you choose, price it at tirerack.com first if they have it and are cheaper than discount's price, print out the tire info from tirerack.com including the price w/ shipping and discount will match the price on tirerack.

I added the Falkens to the list and voted for them. I had them on my 18's last summer and loved them. They were quiet, lightweight and inexpensive. The VR's offer a 30,000 mile warranty and the w's have a 40,000 mile warranty the discount tire. You should be able to get a complete set thru Ebay for around $300 (205/55/16) delivered to your door. My 18's were $379 delivered last spring and it cost my an additional $15 per tire to have them mounted and balanced locally. Here is a couple thousand reviews on them: http://www.1010tires.com/TireR....htmlHere is one Ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVWI will be getting these for my stock 16" alloys to replace my conti's when they are history.

I just put a new set of Goodyear Assurance comforttred on my Vibe and the difference from the crappy Continental tires i had on before is unbelievable. As soon as I drove away from the tire shop I noticed the difference immediately. The ride is so smooth and quiet; on the highway at high speeds there is virtually no road noise inside the car except for the usual wind. I bought them at Sears for 83 bucks each. Try them, you won't be sorry.

My 06 Matix came with the Conti (crappy) and at 3,000 miles after the first snow I was freaked about the cars performance. Spinning wheels all over the place.I also got the Goodyear Assurance Comfortred and Wowzer what a difference. Traction inproved and the ride and lower noise improved like 100%I stepped up on size to 215/55 - 16 on new 16 x 7 wheels too.Have put on 7,000 miles on em and still happy.Howard

I finally got new tires today and the winner is...............Goodyear Assurance TripleTred!Retail was a little higher than TireRack (and Discount Tire Direct), but I got $75 in rebates plus six months no interest on my Discount Tire card (Care One).Wow...I can't believe how quiet these are compared to the Kuhmos! I hope they last as long as they're warrantied.BC...I really did look at the Falkien's a lot, but was really concerned about the low wear life. There were quite a few good eBay auctions out there, but I decided to stick with DT.Thanks for your input!

That's cool! That is the only bad thing about the falkens "is" the lower treadwear & lower tread warranty. Otherwise they are a great inexpensive tire. Glad you found a great tire and a good deal with Tire Rack. If for some reason I decide to not get the Falkens due to the lower tread life, the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread are the next one's in line I will get. How do they handle on the corners and curves?

The triple treads are good. But news has it. They are a significantly heavier tire. So for the around town drivers the mpg's may go down a bit. I have RS-A's on mine now. Hate them...but don't think I should give GoodYear my $$ for tripletreads and making the lousey RS-A's. Plus having 2 sets of wheels I don't need an 80k rated tire. Enjoy...

Well, if my ScanGauge is reporting correctly, I have noticed a drop of 1-2 MPG since I've put the TripleTreds on. Didn't know they were heavier, but this would seem to confirm that. Of course, I'll need to double check the pressure to make sure that they are inflated properly (which usually isn't a problem with Discount Tire).Handling is very good, but not as sticky as the Kuhmos were in their prime. Noise is moderately less as well and they don't "sing" as bad either.

Have Tripletreds on my 05, and after 21,000, I can't be happier. Great tire and well worth the $. As for mileage, mine hasn't dropped a bit.

I liked the handling of the Kuhmos, but was disappointed with the short treadlife. I ended up getting about 34K miles on them, which is apparently above average. I had one tire that needed FixaFlat cause it wouldn't hold pressure, even though we could not find a leak or obvious damage. The FaF gave me another 3K miles without any problems.

I'm convinced with the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred, but right now I only need two tires, wondering if I can mix the two good original conti tires with these? My front tires are almost shot at 32k miles. The rear tires look pretty good.Someone is going to tell me that I should have had them rotated and balanced.Vehicle service sucks down is this area. They all want to keep the car for two days just to do a rotation and balance so I usually end up going without. The good old tire shops have turned into full service garages and even with appointments one has to wait hours for a simple tire service. They don't do real discounts on tires anymore and charge what they want. I can get the TripleTred for $100 each on the internet. The shops want $140 each plus $25+ each for mounting, plus disposal fees and any other fee they can come up with. They have big signs on the windows that they don't mount items not purchased at their shops. That's a whopping $160+ difference, plus the car rental, waiting time and everything else involved. Places like quick lube don't do tire service. Sometimes it seems much easier & less hassle to trade in the car, then to have the tires serviced. I had a nail in one tire on my other vehicle two weeks ago. I took it to the neighborhood tire store before they even opened. I had to wait 5 hours for a patch. They had two mechanics, 2 brake jobs, two mufflers and a tune-up lined up from the day before that they had to finish first. Good thing it was a Saturday and I didn't have to go to work. I've been to every shop in town and we have dozens of them. It's about the same everywhere, like they don't have to make any more money then they do, don't have to work any harder or faster then they want, charge what they want and don't have to compete for business, understaff, pay their mechanics minimum wage and complain that they don't have enough employees. Welcome to St Petersburg, Florida.

You know, Stevo2000 -- and I'm semi-serious here -- you might consider driving to Tampa and getting your tires from a Discount Tire there. Yeah...a couple of hours away, but you'll always get FREE rotations for the life of your tires and the longest you'll probably have to wait for a rotation is an hour.I checked out Tire Kingdom's website...looks like they have a fairly good selection and the prices/service is comparable to Discount Tire. Any reason not to go with them? Price for Goodyear Assurance ComforTred w/install and lifetime rotation was $573.

You'd be a lot happier if you buy all four at the same time. The difference in tread noise and handling is remarkable between the ContiCraps and the TripleTreds.I now have almost 30K on my TripleTreds, and will be putting a set on my Accord once the OEM Michelins give out. Also, have you checked Tire Rack's website for recommended installers in your area? I wondered if these are the same shops you've waited at for hours before?

I've considered getting the tires done in Tampa. I work there and it's about 30 minutes away from where I live. I used to get all of my work done at tire kingdom, because they are one of the few who are open on he weekends. They are also the ones who will let you sit for 6 hours to get anything done and their prices are among the highest. One tripletred is $140, without any installation or anything else. I was quoted something like $25 a wheel, plus disposal fees, new tire fees, tax and what not, so that it ended up being closer to $180 per wheel, or around $720 for all four.I found a new place, called kaufmann tire, and they will do each wheel for $120, including install. They will also beat any competitors pricing. It looks like that is where I'll be taking it for 4 new tripletreds for around $500....Thanks for your input.

I had all four replaced with the Tripletreds on Saturday. I'm still getting used to them. I can tell the difference, a huge one in handling, but can't say yet that I'm fully satisfied as far as comfort goes. They feel as if they need to be broken in, some light rattling/vibrations in the steering. If it doesn't improve I may go back and have the alignment/balancing checked.

They took 2.5 hours to mount 2 tires on my BiL's car -- we had my 7 y/o daughter with us. A couple old ladies walked in after us to get a puncture plugged and walked out before us. I was livid. Then the morons torqued his lug nuts back on with an impact wrench -- we broke a lug stud while changing his brakes this past weekend cause they were on so damn tight.
