Rotational Inertia

Post by sstress »

Liitle note I found online that I thought I would share. Keep it in mind when buying new wheels!***A reduction in the weight of the rim/tire assembly of 5lbs x 4 (all around the car) is equivalent to a 200lb weight reduction in vehicle weight (thats worth 0.200 in the 1/4 mile)*** (By the way, 2 tenths is equal to two car lengths in the 1/4 mile... thats huge!)I just bought and installed a set of 18" Kosei wheels at 16 lbs each and tires at 22 lbs each, and saved about 7 lbs per wheel over my stock steelies and tires. The difference is very noticeable. I no longer have to rev the engine off idle to roll away from a light. I love it!

Thats a good point to keep in mind when I get new wheels this winter.(For spring.) Looks like I won't be getting 24" spinners after all!
