Cargo area dog bars

I'm not sure exactly what it's called but can someone let me know where I can get the bars that go up behind the back seat to keep a dog in the cargo area? Is this strictly a GM part or can it be bought aftermarket? What sort of price would I be looking at?

i have one that i made following the diagram that scherry2 posted. someone else on here followed the same pattern with pvc instead of copper due to it being easier to work with. however, if you'd really like to buy a pre-fab one, toyota will be very happy to take about $250 for one (i don't think GM sells one, but toyota has one for the matrix).

Thanks for the diagram. I might try it with PVC to see how it works out. Either that or I saw I can buy one for $50 at the pet store.

Oh I should ask too. Did you screw it into the back of the seat or how is it attached?

Simply do what I did. Pick up a piece of clear plexiglass at your local store, cut it to size and shape, put it behind the seats and run a piece of elastic bungee cord behind it and hook it to the two headrests. Works like a charm, you can see through it, probably weighs less than a pound or two, is easily put in and taken out and it's almost free.

The self made one skrews into the rails on the backseat and has more of an anchor to keep it in place. The Ebay one is held in place via friction pads(basically there is pressure on both the roof and the floor to hold it in place) I dunno, I would be worried about it ruining the fabric on the roof.

i don't really like the ebay dog barrier. as you can see in the picture.it can be installed 2 ways. flat gaints the seat backs or straight up. either way. seems like you would loose some space with it.

I did make one slight change to the diagram. Instead of tilting the mounting bars to continue the angle of the seat back I put in two 45 degree angles to make the dog barrier strait up and down now. I mesured down about 2inchs down from the "T" and cut a pipe to fit. then added the 15inch peices from there. I will follow up with pictures once it's painted if anyone is interested.I couldn't seem to find something in my garage that would keep the ends of the 15 inch peices off the floor and level adding the 45's made it easier I did one at a time instead.

I built one using $25 worth of vinyl-covered closet shelving and shelf supports from Home Depot, and used the sliding cargo tie-downs to secure it to the seat backs. You need a 4 ft length of shelving, and two shelf bracket mounting strips, and some hardware to secure the two together. I'd send a photo, but the camera's in the shop...

I was wondering if anybody has bought the off the shelf variety? My girlfriend has had her 05 vibe for a few months now, and for christmas I'm planning on snazzing it up some for her, just making it more usefull with things I know she wants. I'm probably going to get her the cargo organizer, the cheaper non gm one. Highland, the company that makes them also makes dog bars.We have 3 dogs, a yorkshire terrier(small), a chow mutt(about 40lbs, medium size and hairy) and a Great Dane(Big boy, also sheds his little white hairs on everything. I want to get her a pet barrier that is adjustable so that I can put it up between the front seat and the rear. If we are taking the Dane somewhere, only had to do it once so far with this car, we fold down the back seat and put some blankets and a big pillow in the back for him to lay on. This is probably the main place the pet barrier is going to go, but it would be nice if I could also set it up to block off the rear like the homeade one here. I'll try to dig up some pictures of the dogs to post later on. Just to hijack this post some - the three things I'm thinking about getting are the pet barrier, the cargo organizer and trying the hardware store carpeting for the rear. the only issue I see with the link you provided is that pet barrior is compression fit. It will tend to leave marks on your head liner. If you don't mine the divits left then that would work well for your application.
