New vibe owner

Post by tribalman »

I have to say, I am very happy with my 04 base vibe. i got it 3 months ago and it is still a joy. it's my first car and i was looking at getting a vibe for a while so when the family car died and i found a great deal on this one, i jumped all over it. i would call it a new car, but it was used. it had 16,000 miles on it from the previous owner. not bad considering bluebook says 30,000 is the typical for a 2 year old car :-) the main reason i found this site is i was doing google searches for "vibe mod" and such and i stumbled upon this site. you all seem intelligent and i can trust your tech advice.now the car has pep and all, but i would like to upgrade the engine and other parts to match my soundsystem. yup, i owned the car for 1 month and already i threw in a new head unit, 4 way speakers, 400watt amp, and a 12" sub. is it at all possible to to fit a v6 or a v8 under the hood? i would prefer to try and make this into a muscle car, and not into what is typically done to civics. if it's not, what would you recomend i do under the hood? i am just getting into car modding and i know already that if i do any mod or changes, i'm more than likely going to have to upgrade the ECU and electrial system. thanks in advance for your help.

WELCOME!!! Congrats on your new (to you) vibe I'm sorry to say (but it's not that bad) that there's not and v6 that could be transplanted into a vibe (as far as I konw). it's never been done before and I'm not sure if anyone has tried. Anything is possible with the right funding and as for a V8... trade your vibe for a magnum. But there is hope for the 1.8 in the form of boost GM/TRD makes a supercharger for the vibe and there quite a few vibes on here that are running turbos. Some people have picked up the SC for around $800 (for just the barebones SC) to $1500 for the full kit from ebay or other people. You just have to keep your eye open. Turbos will run around $3000-$3500 for a full kit.Boost is gonna be the only way you can get the vibe even close to a muscle car. Just search around the force induction thread. oh and there are some guys on here running nitrous, too Good luck & I hope this helps. oh yeah I almost forgot the most important part of a welcome... We love pics on here so don't be shy

welcome aboard!i'm not sure how much muscle you're looking for, but there's also an OEM supercharger available that pushes the 1ZZ up to the 170HP range.

Welcome! as fas as replacing engine theres alot of possibilites but its gonna take alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$ and time. i believe it is possible to fit a v6 but for a v8 you might have to convert the car to a RWD system than a FWD system. i beleive you can also buy the 2.2L S/C ecotec for GM perfomance parts or maybe a toyota crate (if they have one )but if no of those work you can by either the GM or TRD Super Charger (2-3 grand) or Turbo (3-4 grand) and also update all pistons, cams, rods, springs, rocker arms, gaskets, sparkplugs, get a slightly larger oil pan, clutch assembly, and what ever esle that can be upgraded in the engine and tranny. but there is a few other things like a Cold Air Intake or Short Ram Intake, Headers, Full/Cat Back/ Axle back exhaust systems are also available for the Vibe. Hope you find what your looking for, and let us know what all happens

mine is kinda dirty right now and i haven't taken any pics of it yet. mine looks like the one used for the avatar. like i said, i wasn't too into cars before i got my own. sure i know some makes and models, sometimes years, but how to upgrade, i'm clueless. like in the cam shaft, what do i want it made out of? how does size, alloy, shape, weight affect it? what's the differences between brands? pretty much all of that. along with where can i get parts? i'd prefer to shop in person than ordering over the internet. don't like to order too much online.what i would like to do is take out the auto tranny (only downside) and put in a 5 speed manual, short stroke...the works. i think it would be interesting to fab a v6 or even a spare ford v8 5.0L i have sitting around and put on a super charger, turbo, and one of the old air scoops. i'd like the engine to purr, like the muscle cars, not whine like the import cars. any ideas? has anybody ever mesured the dimentions of the hood? l*w*d? cause when i opened the hood it seemed like there was some extra room that could hold some fun parts

Welcome to GenVibe!Don't know anyone who's replace the engine with 6 or 8 cyl. Seems like an awful lot of work and moolah. Turbo is gonna give you the highest hp, but gonna cost $5-6K once you install and upgrade the tranny. For that amount, you might almost be better off going with a Caliber SRT-4 or Mazdaspeed3.Good luck in any regard and post pics when it's nice and clean!

HawaiiPontiacLover, yeah, i have the ambition but not the effort :-pZubenElGenubi, what is the caliber srt-4 or the mazdaspeed3? like i said. i'm really starting to get into cars. what's the difference between the SC and a turbo? i thought a turbo was just a fan used to push air into the engine to help make sure it was getting enough oxygen to fire under high rpms.*edit* also, later today i'm going to clean out my car and take pictures, but cause i am old school and abhor digital, it will take a few days for me to get the film developed.
