'06 Vibe GT close-out prices...

Post by Cougar Vibe »

Has anybody noticed any great deals on GT's lately? The local GMC-Pontiac dealer has been advertising a couple of new '06 GT's on closeout at $14,995...no financing gimmicks, "conquest rebates" or loyalty baloney either. If I wasn't suffering from "SI/GTI" fever, I'd definately be all over that deal. Anyone seen anything comparable?

Damn! A good price AND no financing gimmicks? That's it...my next car I'm buying on the mainland! What these guys (CUTTER) did to me was raise the price claiming "the price went up...oil prices are up, and that raised the price of production..."almost a grand because of the $1,000 rebate...even though I had ordered it at the lower price. They did it because they knew they had leverage on me-my $3,000 deposit. It is because of that I couldn't get the GMPP-they wanted another $1700+ for that! There is a reason why I keep my cars for a very long time...so as not to deal with the financing guys!

That's why when I hear about a deal such as above, I can't help but to question what will happen if one actually attempts to buy the vehicle at said price. i.e. show up and they say "Oh, that's just for stock #XZ41457878 and it was sold three days ago." That's what always seems to happen here. If there are dealers actually giving stuff away at a super cheap price, more power to them. The customer wins.

Here's a little update...I happened to be back down on "auto row" this morning, hoping to check out a new Mazda Speed 3 (none in stock yet, but lots of shiny advertising brochures). Having nothing to do, I dropped by the before mentioned Buick-Pontiac dealer and inquired about the Vibe GT in previous days advertising. Here's the story: Yes, it was $15K...but it wasn't really "new." Rather, it had been a courtesy vehicle for their service department at another dealership in Coeur d' Alene, ID. Naturally, the harder I tried to get info about it the more the salesguy tried to steer me into a genuinely "new" Vibe GT. Needless to say, that was their primary reason for advertising the original GT...to get walk-ins. This "bait and switch" sort of spiel wasn't too bad though, since they have two new GT's for $15,599 w/incentives ($1K Conquest Rebate, $1K Dealer Cash, some other $500 do-hickey). But the whole thing really rubbed me the wrong way...BTW: The reason they could sell the used GT as "new" was because it had less than 2K miles and the warranty would be extended by that much. I'm sure that car was really treated well during it's brief life at the dealership .
