the mazdaspeed3 is only 6 speed manual just like its older bro the mazdaspeed6. i dont think mazda has a good enough auto shift system to make it as a "manual auto" and why ruin a nice turbo car with an auto tranny?

you really need to learn to drive MT. otherwise, you haven't driven a car until you can shift when YOU want! so much more power and when you want it! god i miss having a 6MT! oh well... plan to upgrade both cars next year and they will both have 6MT!

It has to stop.well then perhaps people should stop trying to say their car is better than a subie and no one would need to defend. again, thank you... have a nice day ... move on! it's no different when people on the subie sites say negative things about the vibe or trix, it's the same thing.... i will defend. but really, they are not APPLES to ORANGES!again, compare cars to the correct class.... just as people like to say BS about my posts, BS back at 'cha. if you say something about how an AT turbo doesn't do boo, then i will disagree as i have proven that wrong. it wouldn't matter WHAT KIND OF CAR it was, if it can be disproven than it's part of the discussion and also on topic. if you really want to see how a FWD does to an AWD, then here you go... recognize the interior??? yep... VIBE. and this was a crappy slow run for me... what i want to see, is how a MS3 will do compared to an SRT4. 2 FWD turbo'd vehicles very very close in power and torque. the SRT4 is underrated. and yes, in a line, they ARE FASTER than a stock WRX (but only on dry pavement)!

turbo autos are actually reall fast because theres less turbo lag between shifts..or like turbo spool down. a CVT tranny with FI would be neat but they'd need to put computer points in for the turbo to pssst out the back pressure. i agree manuals are fun as heck to drive but ya in traffic or duluth they suck...well ive only driven a manual on a freeway/street once and i had a blasst!

MT really is the way to go. i LOVE MT, but needed (or felt the need) to go AT this time. figured with manual shift mode, i'd be ok. still, when i drive phil's vibe, it really makes me miss my MT. i am looking forward to the MS3 and MS6. i'm hoping the mazda dealer has them in and one of these weekends (if it ever quits raining) go and test drive both. i know the MS6 are hard to come by up here. one of our subie buddies has a LGT wagon with STI swap has a neighbor that has a brand spanking new MS6. wow! BEAUTIFUL and SEXY car!!!!! plus it's 6MT and AWD! wow! can't wait til next season when i can run him at the track!

Wow! I can't believe what this has turned into. Can I say a final word here. (that will prob make another hundred posts)This is where I am coming from for those of you that think these two cars can't be compared.Scenario for you.I stop at a light. Two townies in a last gen v6 mustang pull up, pointing and laughing at my "station wagon."I smoke their punk butts with my 1.8 liter wagon and then go apologize to them because their REAR WHEEL drive mustang just isn't in the same league as my FRONT drive Vibe. No, I sit back and say the Vibe is a V6 Mustang killer. And the Stang couple go back to the Walmart parking lot and act like it never happened. Now I just gave you two completely dif cars.As for the Sub & MS3both 5 doorsboth same sizesimiliar engine sizesimiliar mission-get 5 peeps + their stuff somewhere fastThe only dif is how the power gets to the ground. In a stoplight race between these two should the sub driver sit back after being beaten and say, "You can't compare these cars, that's why I lost." ? That sounds like sore losing.

the new motor trend comapres these two cars. Mazdaspeed 3 and a WRX. the mazdaspeed won overall and in a drag. So theres the real world test for ya, stock for stock. Now I love both cars and hope to own one of them in the future. just because a car gets beat doesnt mean people dont like it, so just make sure that no one takes getting beat personal see it as a challenge to get your car faster

The only downside to AWD is weight and more equipment to get the job done. Every car has its pros/cons. Why sit here and say "My XX will beat your XX"? If a WRX was to race the MS3 it would probly come down to the driver's skill. So what does it matter? Now can we start talking about how cool the MazdaSpeed 3 is again?

wow... CP went completely off topic *gasp*On topicIts one thing to race against someone in a different car and say "haha I beat you" and have them retort "We're racing apples against oranges here." But to compare a front wheel drive 6spd MS3 (stands for Mazda Speed 3 because knowledge is power) to a 5spd awd turbo Subaru is definatly comparing two completely different cars. It would be like me comparing my Vibe if I put a turbo on it to a WRX and calling my Vibe the WRX killer. I got 5 doors, I got 5spd tranny. Its still a completely different car.Notice in the article no mention of the WRX. They compared it to a GTI. But you go buy a MS3 and I'll go buy a 6spd STi (stands for Subaru Tecnica International which was developed in 1988) and lets race. Don't cry when you lose... we're racing apples against oranges.

yea the STi would win its got more power. but thats not what were talking about the mazdaspeed6 vs a legacy gt is a good comparison and the ms6 lost for speed. its not about who's better its about the person who buys the car and if they like it or not. they are all amazing cars.

I think a good compare would be the SRT Caliber version against the MS3. Both are 5 door with front wheel drive.

That sounds like sore losing.First off, thats awsome you beat the stang! Thats cool you beat the Stang but it doesnt counter my point that you cant compair an AWD to a 2WD car with the same HP and make the claim that one is better than the other. Both cars in your scenario are still 2WD vehicles, granted one is RWD and the other is FWD...but still both are 2WD vehicles. If you put a Base Vibe(Auto) and an AWD Vibe on the track(both stock) and both drivers are of equal skill, which car would you put your money on?Anyhoo, back on topic! The only thing I dont like about Mazda's autostick is to shift up, you press forward and to downshift you pull it back....seems a bit backwards to me.

i think mailguys whole point was that if these 2 cars go head to head, on a dry day, with no space aliens to interfere, the mazda wins the race. fruit bowls be damned.if i raced either car, i would lose, would i not? the class is irrelevant, that was not his point.

i'm finding it kinda funny that there are arguements about which one of these cars is fastest....and we're talking about a subaru and a mazda.why not blow this wide open...take the amount of money you'd spend on either one of those for mods and put it towards the overall payment of a stock car...i bet it would push you to a level where we're all talking about serious cars and not boy toy racers.

I'm comparing the stats, not their personal opinions for being 230HP and AWD it still beat the 263HP FWD.
