Static in audio

Post by adamsane »

Hello, I am a first time poster here.I have a 05' Vibe with the Moon and Tunes package. I was out of town for about a week and my car was parked during that time. When I came back and drove it the following day I heard a distortion coming from the speakers. It seems to be coming on the base side of things. And I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this. Or if there is a simple fix that will take care of this.Thank you for any help you can provide. - Adam

Were you listening to radio? If so, it could be as simple as lousy reception. Also, were you able to tell if the sound was coming from only one bass woofer? then it would be a problem with either the woofer itself or possibly the wiring.

I was listening to the radio at the time. I have changed stations and still had the problem. I havent had time to really put my ear next to a speaker to find out which one it is. How hard is it to change the speakers or to change the wireing? Are there any guides out there? Or should I go to a shop?

Once you isolate the speaker, it's pretty easy to check the wiring.( hopefully its just a loose connection.) You have to take the door panel off to get at the speaker. There are two screws, one in the handle thing where you rest your arm, and one one in the door handle.(its under a square flap) Once you do that, just carefully pry the panel off, as not to break the plastic clips. Of course, if your still under warrenty, you can ignore everything I just said.

I played with the balance and fade controls on the drive into work today. It is only distorted coming out of the front - driver side speaker. This weekend i will try to open the panel and see what gives. Is there a replacement part that someone can recomend. The only place around me is best buy and i dont think they will help. (or at least, i dont think I will trust their advice)Would anyone happen to know the size and the ohm rating of the speakers? Also, a big thank you to ajflan and to everyone else who has read this post.

Oh yea, you'll have to take off the power window panel to get the door panel all the way off. And when you put it back on, you might have trouble if you don't remove the tweeter cover. Both of these items are snap-on and off. Just take your time, because it is very easy to break some of the plastic clips. I broke off part of the bottom clip of the tweeter cover, but it still stays on with no problems or rattling. As far as replacement parts go, you might have to go to the dealer, which could be expensive if your not under warrenty. I wouldn't go to best buy. Best of luck!.....Andrew
