What to wear to a job fair, quick 30min Poll for anyone online.

What to wear to a Job Fair in about 1hr 1/2: 1) Khaki slacks and a button down short-sleeve shirt2) A business suitBoth are ready, just not sure what to wear. Don't want to be over-dressed, but don't want to be under-dressed. I always thought khakis to the Fair, suit to the interview.You can feel free to add your own, but this is really all I have out and ready.

i say a pair of dress pants and a button up shirt (tucked in of course - business casual). the tie isn't necessary until an interview.

Always be prepared. First impressions mean more than people think. Dress like you are a professional and you are ready to work and you'll stand head and shoulders above those dressed in jeans and t-shirts. Good luck!

I vote for the suit. It's always a good idea make the best impression possible when speaking to a recruiter. He/she might be the person looking over those applications deciding who gets to come in for the interview.What kind of job are you looking for? Good luck.

I voted business casual (dress slacks, long-sleeve buttoned shirt), but with a caveat. Bring your jacket anyway; if you see a majority of persons wearing jackets (business professional), put it on. First impressions count, but you also have to "dress the part." If you apply for tech work, sometimes a business suit will look awkward.Good Luck!!

+1 with zuben.... are you looking into the PROFESSIONAL jobs, or a job where you would mostly dress casually and not in a suit everyday.I work in drafting, and i normally dress in a longsleeve buttonup with some slacks. and nice casual shoes.sometimes im just in jeans and a T... but its ok here.I say just go with slacks and a nice casual button up. good luck man

Well, I'm off. Just wearing my slacks and white button down shirt from my suit and taking along the jacket and tie if everyone else is suited. I'll post the results when I get back, as it's only going to run for 3hrs total. Wish me luck!

Well, thanks guys, but no luck it seems. All the companies there were either trying to get people to move or obviously looking for more than I had to offer. That and there were a S-load of BS companies out there looking for waiters, bus-boys, and other misc crap (no offense to those who work there or do that, I just can't support my family and pay my bills off $8-10/hr!) . I'm starting to get the feeling the only jobs I am qualified for are those making minimum wage! I never thought $30k was a lot of money, and that is the minimum I can survive on, but I can't even seem to find a job that I am qualified for making that! Hell, I was bringing home $44,400 in the Navy!

Sorry to hear that man. Look at it this way--none of those jobs were GOOD enough for you. You'll find just the right thing! Or you could always re-enlist....

30k starting pay with no college and no specific on the job training will be very hard to come by. you may want to look into warehouse/factory type stuff.

sorry to hear that Jason. i know when we (the ex and I) went to a job fair in VA before he got out, I made him wear black dress slacks, blue pin striped shirt with a nice looking tie. he had over 10 interviews because he looked nicer but not over dressed than most people there. there were a lot of tech companies including Texas Instruments where he ended up getting a job. of course we did have to move.... but it paid $55K to start and they paid for the move. there are a ton of tech co there in Dallas area, have you gone around (i'm sure you have by now) and dropped off resumes? have you checked out Monster.com too? amazingly enough, desertdweller was the one who emailed me the job listing for my current position. with your experience and training from the Navy (can't remember your exact field) but you should be pretty well qualified for most of the tech jobs. good luck!! job hunting sucks!

usuallly, turning in a resume is the beginning of the employment process. drunkengirlfriend found her job that way and she is making 30k with no college.

yep. i put my resume online and then had to apply for the various positions. when no one called me back after 2 or 3 wks, saw the job posted again, i contacted the person who was on the list and asked why no one had contacted me yet as i was more than qualified. apparently, there was a glitch in the system and they didn't even receive my resume or post that i was interested in the position.

(removed)! what about construction? up here, it pays well, but then you are in TX... so manual labor may not pay all that great. with your electronics training, i would think you'd still be able to do well. of course, this was back in 2000, but the ex didn't even graduate from HS, had to get his GED and also no college what so ever. he only had his 2 yrs of electronics training from the Navy.
