Quote, originally posted by silverawd26 »Mike, it is awesome of you to help your parents out, just look at it that way.In the last year or so I've taken on a larger part of the role of being a "homeowner." I don't pay the mortgage, the utilities, or just about any other house-related bills. But I rush at the opportunity to fix stuff. The 'rents recently had the kitchen redone, I did all the electrical work. I also have done work on the deck (rather am in the process of), we're redoing the patio, I just fixed two of our casement windows which had broken cranks that deteriorated from age, and I was bored one night, so I went through the circuit breakers and labeled them all...and it was a nightmare, because the dude who did the original electrical work had to have done a worse job wiring circuits logically than I thought was humanly possible. There's one breaker that controls the garage lights, the attic fan, and a light in a closet. And I'm not making that up.This is the kind of stuff I look forward to when I (hopefully) someday have my own friggen place. Or if I inherit this one.

Yeah like in your other post above, I was going to say when you own your own home will be doing more of that on your days off! I installed a window and am fixing another on top of managing the leaves when they fall, putting the lawnmower and car away for winter and getting both snow throwers ready... The list goes on but it is all good!

Maybe you shouldn't have gotten a job at Vontage and tried your luck as a fix-it-man. I had a lot of days off a while ago, all I did was go to the store and buy stuff I didn't need, then go return it the next day.

mivibe is correct! work is never done when you have your own house to take care of! laundry, dishes, grass, house cleaning, etc. there is no such thing as a day off!
