Ok, when you have nothing in the seat what should the Indicator say? Mine is just saying AIRBAG. I dont have a ON or OFF with it. They work at start up. When i buckel it up it then says OFF AIRBAG. The owners manual is a bit fuzzy or i am really tired.
Mrs. White: Yes, I did it. I killed Yvette. I hated her so... much... it... it... the... it... the... fee... flames... flames... on the side of my face... heaving... breathless... heaving breaths...
If you have nothing in the seat you will only see the Airbag light. If there is something in the seat(there is a pressure sensor in the seat) but its not heavy enough(IE a small child) the OFF light will come on to let you know that the Airbag will not deploy in an accident due to the occupant not being heavy enough. The occupant has to be over 60 lbs I think for the Airbag to arm. This is a built in safety feature so that if a small child is in the seat, the airbag wont kill them when it deploys.

Like Katscan said, I would just add that "OFF" comes on when the seatbelt is on, but the weight sensor isn't, so as he said it won't go off on a small child or with a carseat.

I noticed in mine today that the OFF light was on while I had maybe 12 pounds of stuff on the seat. I did not buckle the seat belt. If there is just a little stuff on the seat, the OFF light is off.
If there is enough weight to trip the sensor but its not enough for the Airbag to arm, it will read OFF to let you know that the occupant(or object) is not heavy enough to arm the Airbag. The sensor is in the middle section of the seat so if you put a carseat(which is not recommended) it will not trip the sensor since most car seat supports are on the outer edges. In order for the airbag to arm, the occupant has to be more than 60lbs. I belive the reasoning for this is that if you are too light, the force of the airbag deploying would more than likely kill you.
