Paint Job

Post by tcam »

Latley I've been complaining off the hook to my parents about my faded and scratched paint. The previous owners obviously didn't take very good care of the Vibe. So, I finally convinced my Mom into paying for at least half of a new paint job in the near future. But she wants some sort of estimate on how much it would be. And I'm also hoping to paint over my cladding. I know I could just get an estimate at a store, but I want to know what you guys would guess the cost be first, so I don't get too ripped off. lol

I got a estimate of ~$250 for the cladding if I brought them the peices.I've heard other people get estimates of as much as $800 (lancer I think) just for the cladding. It'll probably run you around $1000-$1500 for a full paint job. just depends on the shop, really

I would say Ano is right - $1000-$1500 seems like a reasonable estimate. The dealer's body shop will of course charge you more, and Maaco would probably charge you less, but experience says you get what you pay for up to $1000 to $1500. Because you are painting the cladding, I'd throw an extra $500 or so in just for the prep work for that as they should be removed to be properly painted. On the monotone package, you can still see the rubber piece between the fender flare (cladding) and the fender. If they painted it without removing that, you'd develop cracking and flexing at that location...so $2000 or so...Down in Tucson I have had success with Troy over at Precision Auto on Stone north of Drachman on the East side (Just north of Bum Steer). He has done excellent work for me and my family in the past. Tell him Bobby sent you (you may have to remind him I used to own a Volvo S80 he had worked on for me). There are some other good shops in town down off Irvington as well...

The quotes I got for JUST the cladding was between $1100 and $1500.I'm with Drunkenmaxx, go custom! If your gonna paint the whole thing you might as well. Or at least get a color that vibes don't come in. I like the 2-tone idea, too. Purple up to the bottem of the window line, then black the rest of the way up.

this is one of those "it totally depends on where you live, what shop you take it too and how much work they have to do.1000-1500 would be a good deal for a full paint job done well... Macco can do it cheaper but you definitly get what you pay for with paint jobs.Hit a few bodyshops in your area and see who is out to lunch and who is on the level. Then hit moms up for the $$$ (half of the highest estimate) CAN-AWD-VIBE

I think it's gay how much car paint is now adays. I understand it's a big job to paint a car, but just the paint itself is more than I can afford. I haven't priced the neptune paint yet, but I know after my accident, when they redid my front end, it almost doubled the price of repairs for the paint, and that was after replacing EVERYTHING on the front end, including the airconditioner, radiator, and both headlights. While your pricing, if you could, let us know what they are asking for the paint. Good luck on the paint job, I know if you get it, it will come out awsome, just remember what every one said, you get what you pay for.and don't forget PICTURES!!!!

(removed)!uhm, so my Mom kinda had a mini-heartattack this morning when I told her how much it could cost. So now, she just wants me to get it all touched up "Too much $ for a high-schoolers car when it's probably gonna get chipped almost daily anyways" is what she said. She just doesn't understnad how well I take care of my car and how close I really look after it.

Do you think GM will start putting worthwhile pain on the newer Vibes? I know the clearcoat on the older ones have had all sorts of problems. I am always seeing threads on bugs getting under the clearcoat, and how the paint looks bad so fast. How are the newer ones? And does any one have a new paint job?

This is what I would do...Get the worst parts painted and then have the entire car buffed out from the body shop.ORGet the worst parts repainted and clay bar the entire car on your own and touch up any chips. My 2003 paint looks great still and has minimal paint chips and the few it does have, have all been touched up. I detail and clay bar the car 1-2 times a year and it never sees a car wash. It is only hand washed. Car washes do damage, at least the kind that touch the cars body. I used to detail cars so I know what I am doing but I have also seen lots of damage due to neglect.
