Painting Brake Calipers

Post by tcam »

Is it a necessity to sand the caliper before painting it? I have read a few posts on here that people recommend it, but my paint kit doesn't say anything about doing that. And for those that have done this mod already, how far back did u paint the caliper? Like did u paint the entire thing as much as you could. Or did u stop at the point where the paint would just be no longer visible?

I didn't sand my calipers and they turned out fine, I use two coats thatt pretty much covered it. I did mine a week ago.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=24797

yeah, I remember seeing that post not long ago. And I have had this caliper paint for a while now, and ur post kinda inspired me to get 'em painted soon. lolSo, did u paint the whole caliper, or just the parts that are visible from the outside?

Being that they're cast aluminum and have a rough surface, sanding won't do much. I would spray them down with brake parts or carb cleaner and brush them clean prior to painting though. Paint prep products may not be good for the seals, the parts cleaner may not be either so just watch those areas.
