Something cool with moons and tunes

Post by 4X4CHICHI »

I just found out that when you store a radio station on your presets it also saves the equalizer setting. I guess it's not a big deal but kind of cool after having the car for almost 3 years.

So you could have a different equalizer setting for each station? Cool!

I think that's only on the 6CD head unit, and it doesn't matter whether you have M&T or not.

Youse guys didn't know that? It's very useful since not everything is going to sound the best on the same type of EQ, and it's a PITA to constantly have to fiddle with the thing to change the settings. I liked it because I could set the EQ up to sound better for voice, save that for my NPR presets, use another for whatever other music stations... And last but not least, it was most helpful with the Sirius receiver since I was using its built-in transmitter, it needed its own special tweaking of the EQ in order to sound the best (but didn't sound as good on normal FM stations so I couldn't use that EQ elsewhere.)And then, it will switch to yet another EQ for CD. Pretty nifty feature. BTW, single disc does it too.

I wonder if I can hook up XM to my radio without having to use the external device. I cant remeber if this was brought up before but does your radio have a seperate button for XM or does it look like other factory radios and you hit the aux button?

I could have swore that the base radio unit also has that functionality. It doesn't seem to save tweaks but it will get you in the right general setting 1-5(6?)

I can't recall how to do it, I stumbled upon it accidentally one day. It does work, I had the first four on mine changed since I liked my EQ's better than what the factory defaults were.I wish I could remember how to do it though. The manual didn't describe it worth a crap, it's one of those things you have to find out yourself.

The manual didn't describe it worth a crap, it's one of those things you have to find out yourself. No, the single Disc allows you to save the EQ with the station preset - so when you select a preset station, you get the EQ saved with the preset. The 6CD has EQ presets in addition to the station presets. You can assign a specific EQ setting to an EQ preset. So, for example if you listen to jazz, rock, and book-on-cd CDs, you can select one of the EQ presets for the type of music on the CD you're listening to. Same for radio stations - you assign one of the preset EQs to a station preset, instead of assigning a particular high/mid/low setting. So if you change EQ preset 2, then all station presets that use EQ preset 2 will use the new EQ preset 2 setting. If anyone is interested in more details, read the owner's manual. It's posted on the site.

Dang it, I swear I did it! It happened! There were 5 EQ settings on the base, single disc radio that were preset at the factory, selectable by pressing EQ... EQ and the number of the EQ preset was shown in the display (barely visible in this crummy pic here, right above the text "CD TIME") If you changed the settings for low/mid/high manually, it would just show EQ. You could hit TONE and tweak the low/mid/high settings and then save it back to any one of the 5 EQ settings. But I don't recall the sequence for saving. Once saved, select that EQ setting, and assign it to the preset by saving the preset. I know it happened, since my EQ settings for EQ-whatever# were different than what they were from the factory. The umpteen times I replaced my radio, I always had to figure out how to do this again since I liked MY eq settings better than what they had at the factory. It sounds just like you said for the 6-disc BUT IT ALSO WORKED WITH THE SINGLE DISC.I'll have to figure it out next time I'm in Kari's car.

Something like this is what I was doing, if I remember correctly. Or, I may just be talking out of my (removed), I don't really know or care.Hit TONE to adjust the bass/treble/mids to a certain level.Press and hold EQ until EQ starts to flash and you see SELECT EQ on the display. Press the EQ button repeatedly until the desired EQ number is lit (or maybe flashing.) I think pressing and holding EQ saved the setting. Display reads EQ SAVED and a beep is heard. Now you have a custom EQ preset with the single disc. Switch to that EQ and save a station preset to make that EQ preset attach to that station preset.

I appear to be doing that. I read through the manual, but I guess like you said it's confusing. I dorked around with my HU this evening and discovered you are right:The single CD has 5 EQ presets, that can be cycled through by pressing the EQ button. Like you said, once you cycle to a number, adjust it, then press & hold EQ until it beeps to save it.The 6CD has fancy text that it uses isntead of just preset numbers - like you can save ones for "jazz", "rock", "classical", "talk" etc.Next time I promise to dork with my radio before opening my foot-stuffed mouth.
