I Need Help on several mods...

Post by danegerous »

My dude and I were discussing mods we had done in the parking lot of Buffalo Wild Wings today. We were VERY satisfied with our Vibes and the mods done so far. We had swapped the mirrors for non-moonroof mirrors with maplights, swapped middle console for more room, used hidden middle console power to make hidden phone charger, set up a kill switch to disable ignition...and then some. Anyway, we wanted more...but we need your help!1. We want ALL the windows to have the "AUTO" function and the auto button...so, from any position in the car, you can "AUTO" roll the window the whole way down. EDIT: after reading some other threads, I see that this mod is near impossible...doh!2. We want the back windows to roll all the way down.3. We want the moonroof to have the "Auto" feature, too. We want it to roll all the way back if we so choose, or stop somewhere in the middle. 4. We want to have the option of turning off our headlights...5. He sways he can do this and told me to look in my manual, but I can't find it. I want to make my open door beep sound different or even just not be SO loud. Any help would be appreciated.I think that's it. Thanks guys and gals! Please add any other super cool mods! thanks!

#1 will probably take some logic programmed somewhere or electronic parts.#2 I do not think you can do this. Take the door apart and look at the regulator and window channel though. #3 has been done, search the site. Joatmon has done it I believe. Disable sunroof soft stop.#4 turning off the day time running lamps and not the headlamps?#5 you need to find the door buzzer probably in the dash or below it.

Disable sunroof soft stop. disabling the soft stop halfway on close is do-able, but I think Dane wants to be able to push a button and let go, and have the moonrood slide open all the way without having to hold the button down. At one point I considered looking in to that but as far as I know nobody has built such a thing for Vibes/Matrixes yet

Danegerous, If you decide to do any of these, please do how-to write-ups with pics. Everyone here would be greatly appreciative of you. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. The kill switch is a neat feature, actually. You push it in when leaving the car and even if someone has the key, they can't start the car. Even if they hotwire it, they can't start it. This way, aside from a flatbed truck, you can't steal this sucker...I want the Headlamps/daytime running lights to be able to be turned off...I want to be able to pull up to my house and finish a phone call or read some mail and not have to shine my lights into the window, ya know. The moonroof i do want to be one push one roll, but with the option to stop it early, like the driver window. I'll keep you informed!Actually, I did one more mod...VERY simple, VERY cheap and Very effective...I went to a scrap yard and found another Vibe. I then cut the seatbelt. I removed the buckle on the seatbelt and bought it. Now, whenever I'm transporting plants or suitcases or whatever (even my college backpack), when the passenger seatbelt beep goes off...*click*! I pop that extra little buckle in and now im good to go. i use to have to reach over and push move and wiggle til I got the dang seatbelt clicked in...much easier this way.

Check out this thread:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=18678The technique described in this thread is an even easier way to silence the beep when you're carrying things in the front seat. However, one thing I like about your solution is that it keeps things intact for the times when you're carrying a passenger.

There may be a feature to turn off the DRLs using the Tech II. I would have to play with mine to find out because I do not know off the top of my head. I wish both of the Vibes front windows had auto down like my PT Cruiser did, that was nice. My 2007 Jeep Compass does not either!

#2 is going to be impossible. More than likely, when you have a rear door window that does not go all the way down, that's because the glass will not fit all the way down inside the door due to curves or various other design issues. If you could modify the window to go down further, it will probably shatter - and these windows do enough of that on their own, they don't need any help. Your best bet is to trade for a car that has windows that roll all the way down back there if it is that important to you. Those are few and far between. #4, there is a how-to around here somewhere that has instructions on killing DRL's and the automatic light control by switching one of the leads that go to the DRL module. You also have another option of disabling just the automatic light control by switching one of the wires that go to the light sensor, that keeps your DRL's. That's what I did with mine when I had it.#5, there's no adjusting the buzzer. You're stuck with what you have. The buzzer is soldered onto the gauge cluster itself. I have read of people disconnecting it, but nobody thus far has replaced it. If you can find a suitable chime from some other vehicle, perhaps you could try to find a way to make that work but I dunno... Probably wouldn't be easy, you'd have to find out how the one in the Vibe works plus how the other chime works that you got from the other vehicle. I hated that buzzer, it really got on my nerves - I came close to yanking the cluster and putting foam around it to muffle the sound a bit. If you want to just lower the volume, that may work.
