Avoiding the "Gap" w/ Aftermarket HU

Post by GreyStreet »

I just got a 2006 Vibe Moon/Tunes -- love the car thus far. I've been reading this forum, looking at the install pictures of some of the HUs people have put in, and I'm just not feeling the "gap" in the dash that results when the HUs get installed. Are there any install kits that cover the gap in the dash, or do all the single DIN kits leave that ugly space? Also, has anyone had any success tossing in a Double DIN replacement deck? Crutchfield.com is saying that none of the Double DIN screen LCD HUs (like the Alpine or the Kenwood) are good fits in the Vibe. Any help is appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that there have been folks here that have installed double-DIN units or two DIN units in that space.... I don't recall what they looked like in the car though - however I think your best bet for appearance and fit would be a double-DIN unit... But that makes your choices fewer and far between and of course more expensive. AFAIK, there is only the one type of dash kit that I've seen, with the storage bin under the unit.Welcome to GenVibe, by the way.

If I'm not mistaken, the space for the HU is 1.5 DIN, not double DIN. And the choices for that size are even more limited than the ones for double DIN...

If it was a double din unit, then the pocket/gap in the installation kit would be almost as tall as the single din HU itself. I'm pretty sure it's a 1.5 din.
