I want to replace my stock head unit with one that is satellite ready. I'v been an XM subscriber for years, but I'm considering switching to Sirius. I was wondering what you guys use. I want to hear some opinions.

I've had Sirius since last fall, and I wouldn't get rid of it for the world. My only criticism is that their playlists - regardless of what music channel - are thinner than I'd like. A few of my friends have XM and they complain of the same thing. Sirius has the NFL and now NASCAR, and XM has MLB. Other than that, they're pretty much the same.
Mods: 04 center armrest, 04 Matrix AM/FM/CD/Cassette, Electrochromatic rear view mirror w/compass, GM hood protector, Ventvisors on doors and moonroof, one-touch close moonroof. added 12v outlet in console, Goodyear TripleTred tires, Sirius satellite radio.
$$$ Clear Channel $$$ is a pretty good reason to steer clear from XM, IMHO. They ruined FM and now I hear they've invaded XM with their stupid 90 minutes of commercials in every hour crap. Might as well tune into KISS-whatever and not have to pay to hear that junk. lol!Sirius all the way!

I have no idea what Colonel is talking about...all the MUSIC channels on XM are still commercial free. The news/talk/sports channels have always had commercials on them.XM vs. Sirius is not something where anyone can really say one is better. That's like saying apples are better than oranges or vice versa. To me, maybe apples are better, but you can't stand them.I have XM, my wife has Sirius. She likes Sirius for the higher number of Dance/Techno channels. I personally think the programming on XM is much more diverse, and the channels I listen to (Lucy, Ethel, The System) has MUCH less annoying DJ chatter than Sirius does. The technology and sound is pretty much the same. The cost is the same. You have to look at the programming and see if there's anything specific to Sirius that would make you want to switch. As I said, in my experience, XM seems to have a deeper playlist than Sirius does. Sirius's Alt Nation is closer to FM in how much their stuff seems to repeat.

I've heard that from a couple XM people. It's only on a couple channels, I think, and it IS music. From what I gather, Crap Channel has taken over programming and thus the playlist has been pretty well dumbed down to their standards and the required commercials have been put in place. It's probably on some channel that plays the latest in top 40 pop crap if I had to guess. Of course, I don't have XM so I can't confirm. I can only go by what I've heard.edithttp://www.fool.com/News/mft/2006/mft06031026. ... annel/With Clear Channel being involved, it's only a matter of time until they've ruined XM too... But that's just me being Mr. Negative as usual. Sorry, I just live in an area where I've seen radio completely destroyed by this company - you can only find a couple stations NOT owned by this entity. Those guys have sucked the life out of so many good stations across the country. Here, the only quality stations are the NPR affiliates and the local station ran by the high school! Everything else is filth. I'll happily send in my pledge for NPR and keep paying money to Sirius to get radio worth listening to. Just MHO.

From what I read, ClearChannel was providing the content for those anyway. But, XM listeners are usually pretty quick to protest, maybe they'll just ditch the channels? Not that it matters to me, I don't listen to the four channels in question anyway..

Only reason I would switch my 3 XM subscriptions to Sirrus would be Nascar. Other than that, I love XM, and I don't care about all the 'big names' Sirrus has signed on lately. I listen to Lucy 90% of the time, and the '40's a lot, HEAR music, both of the Classical channels, and the movie toons station.

I have 3 XM units. 1 in the Vibe, 1 in the Saturn Relay and 1 hooked up to our Bose Wave Radio. I love The Loft, Big Tracks, Top Tracks, the 80's, and XM Comedy. I occasionally listen to some baseball but usually listen to the local broadcast of the league-leading Detroit Tigers. The only thing I would switch XM to Sirius would be for NFL football otherwise I love XM.Mike

I'm glad I made the switch to Sirius. I like the music programming better, but I especially like the NFL channel. To me, that alone was worth the switch.

I've been using XM for 5 years now (Grand Am, WRX, and Vibe), and probably will as long as I have the Vibe.If there is an option for Satilite radio on my next car I'll just use that. If my next car has Sirius I'll be happy to switch.Really, as long as I have AM radio (for news) and an iPod jack I'll be fine

I have Sirius, and love the music, sports and Howard. But, to be honest - with how many units Sirius is selling vs. XM nowadays (latest figure is 80% of satellite sales), it will only be a matter of time before they merge. Until then, Sirius is my suggestion, and hopefully not too many of the XM stations will move onto the lineup (if it happens)!p.s. I agree on the DJ talk on Sirius. However, most times it's news about artists and their concerts and such, so I don't mind.
I have been a SIRIUS person for 2 years now, and have liked it even before Howard, (Howard and Bubba are an added benefit) Although I Have never had XM, i have heard that there are like Premium channels you have to pay extra for on their system (can anyone confirm this??) Which if true, i know sirius doesnt do that, also as others have said there is some DJ chatter and its usually news on the artists. The nice thing is that there is no $clearchannel$ or $Infinity$ conglomo over them. Down in South Florida all of the FM radio stations have been taken over by these two "Geniuses"...

The only premium channel on XM that I'm aware of is the "Playboy" channel. I'm not sure why one would want that channel, anyway. I'm wondering if it is just 24 hours of heavy breathing?Opie and Anthony (syndicated morning show) used to be premium channel but no more.I hope they both are able to stay in business. Mike

Yeah they have that too, you have to call to get it activated, (as if i care) but i think your right its just heavy breathing. As far as O and A are concerned, i know that they are also on one of the morning FM stations here as well...Wonder whats up with that???

I first heard a show of theirs with these two guys just sitting around being raunchy, it was stupid, made college frat boys sound mature. So I decided to not waste my brain's limited processing power on that crap and forgot I had this stupid channel until now. Tonight I thought I'd tune in so I could post my findings... I heard a woman with a British accent ask another woman to gag this guy... So there he was, gagged, on the floor, and getting smacked with a whip.

Don't get me started on those damn single artist channels... Single artist channels are fine, if I don't like them, I won't listen to them. Which has usually been the case. BUT the Bridge will play some tunes by some artists that I really like and can't really find elsewhere when it's gone. And while I don't listen to it most of the time (that would be PureJazz 72 and if they ever eff with that one, I'm GONE! lol,) it still pisses me off to no end to lose that channel a quarter out of every year so they can dedicate it to one fricken band. I liked The Who at one point, maybe still do a little, but not enough to take away an entire channel that I liked more for. And in '05 when they put The fricken Boss on there, definitely not a fan of him, but I lost the Bridge again for several months again so he could be there... There was supposed to be a world music channel (The Globe 98) but they threw the Stones on there instead for "a limited time" and left them there for like what - 2 to 2 1/2 years? I guess that's where The Who is now, right? They need to whack a channel that would (removed) off the fewest subscribers if they want to run a single artist channel, but you know how big companies get when they land big deals, they don't give a crap about the end user of their products or services. Hopefully kicking the Stones out and moving the Who to the other channel will mean that any single artist channels will now be there... We'll see. That's the only bad thing I have to say about Sirius, and my station is back so it's all good... for now. hehehe! XM people, just curious, do they have single artist channels over there?Anyway, hell yeah they could have put something else on the spank it channel! Too bad Sirius isn't TV, we could call this "spanktravision!"

Well, they're trying to merge, but some senators just brought up some pretty heavy objections to it.
