Hello. My name is Sky, and I.... am a n00b.

Post by skylinedrifter »

Hello, everyone. After more than a year of what was a combination of procrastination and biding my time, I have finally purchased a Vibe. It is a base, 2003 w/ standard transmission and manual everything... the way I like it. I've been admiring these cars for a while now. I like the form, functionality, and ESPECIALLY the fuel economy. Whereas many of you look to mod these cars for speed, I look to mod for fuel economy as I drive nearly 80 miles per day. I also hope to install a sweet stereo and mellow out my interior with some nice faux-wood and some cool blue lighting.... and maybe a cold-air intake w/ram air hood because old habits are hard to break. Slainte Mhath!

Welcome n00b! vibes are great cars, both to mod & for fuel economy. So I'm sure you'll be happy. We love pics here so show us your vibe, & some of your "old habits" if you have any pics.I've never seen a vibe with the faux wood treatment and I'm not a big fan of that but it would be interesting to see, so good luck with that.Slainte Mhath! to you, too. (whatever that means)

All the pics of my 93 Saturn SC2 were on an old PC which bit the big one, so unfortunately, I haven't any pics... but she was sweet. She was a 200hp (normally aspirated) sleeper which would regularly put other cars in their places. But, many procedures which would increase HP will also increase fuel economy, provided I don't revert to my "bat out of hell" ways....and "slainte mhath" (pronounced sla-ja va) is irish gaelic for "To your health!"

Hey Sky! Welcome to GenVibe! Slainte Mhath to you as well!http://www.faqs.org/faqs/music....htmlI like to try to blend economy with light visual mods and performance. With the Vibe (as with most cars) it is mainly how you drive that will determine your MPG. There are people with superchargers that have gotten 30+ mpg if they stay out of boost (haha yeah right). There is tons of info on here about how to ge the most MPG out of your car. You'll be seeing mid to upper 30's in no time.Congrats on your purchase! Post pics when you get a chance! PS- We also have a '93 SC2 in Plum (still stock though)

Welcome!I had a Malibu with the wood-grain dash and it looked nice, but it also had an earth-tone interior. I too would like to see how it looks in the Vibe.

Welcome to the family! nice neptune those are some different covers ive seen. like the others have said the CAI is the best mod to do for HP and MPG.and when Zuben mentioned NascarVibe about the lighted speakers he meant me. i have the Dual Audio's Illuminite series speakers with the intergrated ledswired up to a switch so when i flip the switch they light up.here are the pics of what they look like at night and with out the door panel on.Up close:

Those are some sweet cones! I may need to invest, provided the sound quality is top notch. As for a CAI, I am hesitant. It's been my experience that CAIs are prone to collecting more dust and debris than are SR due to the filter's location lower to the road surface. It may not be quite so much of a concern in warmer climates, but up in rural Michigan, I can see one of those beasts getting choked with ice, salt, mud and snow; not only causing premature corrosion and unnecessary cleaning, but also potential engine problems if enough salt happens to punch through the filter. So I ordered the K&N SR kit. Got it for $150, shipped, and that should be almost as good. My next change will be synthetic oil. 5W-30 Amsoil, specifically. I love synthetics. Then, as parts need to be replaced, I will eventually add upgraded exhaust, better clutch, nicer alternator, perhaps an electric water pump..... but until then, I'm just going to spend a few $$$ here and there to improve aesthetics. Mind you, I don't want to be driving a gaudy car, just one with some subtle distinctiveness which would easily allow me to pick my car out of a lineup, because I plan on attending some gatherings.
