I HATE HONEYCOMB

Post by PHXLavaVibe »

As you can tell from my sig. I previously painted all five of my grilles an annodized red. It was a painstaking process back then and I was kickin myself in the @$$ all weekend as I spent over 16 hours trying to remove all that junk. It wouldn't have been such a big deal, but the paint has been chipping/peeling off over the past couple months and has really started to look cheap and tacky.I probably spent over $150.00 on different supplies I attempted to use to get the red off. There are hardly any paint removers out there that are safe to use on plastic so I spent most of my time using tiny wire brushes and my pathetic battery powered Dremel. I did find some spray paint remover at the Home Depot that helped loosen the paint but still exerted myself using the wire brushes. I started working on the grilles around 9am on Saturday and quit for the day around 1am. then I started again around 10am Sunday. I finally got the majority of the paint off around 3pm Sun. and took the pieces to my local do it yourself car wash. I soaked the remainder of the paint with the remover and then attacked all the pieces with the high powered sprayer/washer. After 20 minutes of spraying them down with the skin peeling water pressure, the five pieces were spotless and ready for a makeover. It took all of 2 hours to completely repaint the pieces in a high gloss black. Following the suggestions of a few of my friends, I first sprayed the naked grilles with a plastic adhesive (forgot the brand) and then applied 4 coats of black with an additional 3 coats of clear.I had the car all put back together by 6pm and then took my husband deprived wife out to dinner. Followed by a movie "Snakes on a Plane"Wow that was a good movie!!!Pics comming this afternoon

Wow, I got mine off, painted, and back on in under 80 min. and it's still holding up well. I only used 3 coats of Krylon for plastics.
