Will '03 WRX Rims Fit on an '06 Vibe?

Post by Johnny5 »

So I recently traded in an '03 WRX but had purchased a second set of stocker rims to put some Blizzak WS50's on. They are sitting in my garage right now and have a 5x100 bolt pattern. The wheels are 16" and have the correct tire width/size as the vibe (according to looking at each on TireRack)Question is that the Vibe seems to show anywhere between a 32-38mm offset and the WRX rims seem to show around 46-50mm offset. Will they fit? Will they fit and look goofy? Anyone know if they are the same hub size?It would be awsome if these fit on here because the tires have plenty of life in them and I actually don't really dig the stock vibe steelies and plastic covers.I did some searching and saw some various opinions but has anyone actually done this swap?thanks,- john

both are 5 x 100 lug pattern... it should work. Put one on and find out for sure though. It all comes down to the size of the hub. I beileve the Vibe offset is around 39mm.*edit* the rim on that subaru has a 55mm offset... it could rub the strut.

According to this site.... http://www.sromagazine.com/shop/wheelguide.htmlThe Subies have a center bore of 56.15 and the Vibe (Matrix) has a bore of 54.06.

If the center bore is wrong you can buy hubcentric rings (adaptors) for about $13.00. The offset may be a problem though.

If you used one of those I would also assume you may need to swap out the studs for longer ones to ensure enough contact on the threads. I still can't visualize the offset. It sounds like you guys are saying that it will be pushed in (I thought it would be sticking out) so would the adaptor also push it wheel/tire away from the strut then?I can't tell if this is more BS then it is worth but it would be nice not to get new tires/winter rims. If worse comes to worse I'll take the WRX rim/tires and have them just put the Blizzaks on the Vibes steelies. Is it a structural/safety issue when you get into adaptors/spacers?... then all I have to do is convince my wife I need new summer rims

hmm... you're gonna definitely be off on the offset. but i would think the hubcentric rings would work fine. cheaper than buying new rims imo.

I looked for the hubcentric rings and didn't seem to find any in the sizes that were posted above. 2mm doesn't sound like a huge gap to fill. I wonder if they even make them that small.

A negative offset means the wheel will stick out away from the mounting surface, a positive offset means the wheel will be more inside the fender. If the Subie rims are a higher negative offset they should not be a problem as far as brakes go but may require an alignment. Check with Discount Tire for the rings, that's where I got mine for my Motegi rims.http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do Give them a call. Ask them about the Subie wheels on a Vibe, they're really helpful and knowledgeable.

Subie is a positive offset which means the wheels stick in, not out. So you would want to see if they would make contact with the strut.
