E-Manage or Unichip (with SC, CAI and future upgrades)

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

As you know, I've just purchased a GM Supercharger and am trying to set up the build. Because I plan to continue using the CAI -- and really want my car to continue running -- I plan to upgrade to either the Greddy E-Manage or Unichip system. I'd like your opinions (with experience, preferably) on these systems, especially with FI systems. I do have a couple specific questions on each:E-Manage: What will I be required to purchase in addition to the original ("blue") Base Unit? Will I need the Ignition and Pressure Sensor harnesses, as well as a pressure sensor? Do I still need these items if I get the E-Manage Ultimate instead?Unichip: What's the typical turnaround time for Unichip tuning? There are no authorized tuners in Houston , and that means I'd need to ship it out and be without my car.As of today (8/15), the advantage of the E-Manage is that there is a local, authorized dealer/tuner with Dyno setup (SGP Racing, using Dynapack system). The advantage of the Unichip is that I may be able to purchase it already tuned for less than $500.

I've been talking to Bluecrush about these for a couple days now. If you have a unichip tuner the chip can be awesome. But they seem hard to come by, MN is getting their first tuner with in a month or two. The only problem I have with unichip is no laptop/pda connection. So when your driving you cant see whats going on, or tune it while you drive, it all can only be done at an unichip tuner.Celica owners seem to not like the unichip, but they also dont have TRD SC support. I have not been on MO long enough in the FI forum to see what most of them run. Some run the Hydra but that thing is like $1500 alone! but seems to be an amazing ecu.

MWR has a complete set up of this pretuned for 7.5 psi in their site: http://www.monkeywrenchracing.com If you decide to go with the e-manange I would get it there. (don't for get about the cost to hardwire the e-manage to your stock harness) $100-200.You can also get an e-manage blue from e-bay. then get a prewired harness that already has the ignition, injector & main harnesses wired for you from http://www.boomslang.us($270+/-) Then send your blue box to MWR for a supercharger tune to 7.5psi. ($25 + shipping both ways). The nice thing about the e-manage is it can be tuned by almost anyone. The Ultimate has it's own separate wiring harnesses and yes you will still need the Pressure sensor and pressure sensor harness. If you go with the Unichip, you should talk to Lancer first but they offer 3 different tunes for the S/C - 7psi, 10psi, 12psi. The cost for retuning is $25+ shipping both ways. I sent my N/A Unichip to them on 8/10 it should arrive there on 8/16 (tomorrow). They said it will take one day to get it tuned and shipped back out. So I should receive it back by 8/23. But that is Fedex ground shipping. You could get it shipped faster.Make sure you talk to or e-mail Jack Friedman if you are going with the Unichip. He is the Nationwide Sales Manager. So, it sounds at though the e-manage blue may be better for you since you can get it installed and tuned locally. It may cost a little more but you won't have the downtime if it needs retuning. Good Luck! Let us know which one you decide to go with and how everything goes with the install and tuning.

His is configured for everything plus header & cat-back. I think this set up would work okay for now, but have to contact Unichip on that. It is certainly a less-expensive option (by about $250).

If not, you can add another $225 for the S/C harness and reprogramming for the S/C by Unichip.

Wouldn't be worth it w/out the S/C harness (could get a new Unichip w/harness for $665 from neverenuf)
