05 GT cosmo cai installed

Post by Mook »

So i installed a Cosmo CAI on my 05 gt about a month or two ago and i still have a few floating questions. First off im loving it now, the sound, the power, o yea and the the sound especially when the valves lift. My gripes;when you first turn it on it makes a loud high pitched noise for about 4 minutesThe installation was two pains in the (removed), i ended up cutting an inch or two off the throttle body side of the intake to make it fit and it still fits very tight with pressure on the headlightbut at least its in and it kicks (removed)! My other main concern and question is the two grey vacuum hoses that used to attach to the stock intake... now i have golf tees stuck in the ends of them and there just dangling in the engine bay... something tells me that's not goodother things I've noticed with the intake installed is the performance is not always constant i feel that in humid air the car sounds and performs not as well and in general the car does not feel as fast now as it did before the CAI (summer heat considered)I think this might have to do with the two grey hoses not getting info back to the ecu... what do you guys think?any suggestions on what to do with the hoses? there is one spot on the CAI that one of the hoses might connect to...Thanks alot

I believe that when I installed my short ram air intake I just removed the two vaccum hoses that were just hanging there. I'm pretty sure that is what they were. But I always was a bit confused as to plug them up/remove them or what? And as far as performance/sound goes, I notice that if I pull up off of the throttle a bit when I'm ingaging in lift, it makes a different noise and is certainly different when it comes to boost in hp. Or so I can feel. However, I don't think your problem is that, so I just suggest popping the hood and putting your ear up to the intake tube. Then give the throttle a few flicks and if you hear any air leaking, then you may just have a clamp loose somewhere. I dunno, that isn't very likely but it's worth a try.good luck

I believe there shouldn't be any hoses unhooked. If you get a GT intake it should have a spot to hook everything up to. The intakes were made for the matrix that has the foglights towards the center of the car, the vibe changed this. Therefore you have to cut a significant amount off on the filter end for it to fit properly. You don't want to be choked up on the filter because that will hinder performance.

I would agree... all hoses NEED to be hooked up in order to get the full performance out of the CAI. I have a base 05 and I had to fabricate an extra hose connector in order to get mine to work. You don't have a CEL (Check Engine Light) that is on without the hoses hooked up?

Are you talking about the "vacum switching valve?" I'm with a 03 GT I know there is difference in the tubing and valve and everything but look at the pics on this thread...http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=22702If so... The guys at cosmo did came back to me, after i email them my question and picture, and it seems they did some check and told me that it was ok and normal. Everything is running fine (no cel either) since three month. But if someone knows what to do with those two valve.. i'm veeery open to know cuz doesnt feel right to me either.

I have a CAI on my 2005 Vibe BASE and have been wondering the same thing. My VSV is separated from the entire CAI now with the 2 hoses still attached to it. I'm not going to detach either of those hoses since I'm not sure if one of those hoses should be attached to my intake tube. Until I find out differently, I'm going to keep the extra 3/8" inlet covered without any hose attached to it.

orry to be so late on this thread but i talked to a friend of a friend who is a mechanic. He look ed up the vaccumm system on his computer and said the two hoses have to do with emmisions. they take the unburned fumes from the exhaust and bring them backup front to the intake to be burned. the two hoses are for emmisions purposes only and should not affect performance or longevity of the equipment. there is a niple on the cosmo CAI i got where the shorter of the two hoses should be hooked up; and the longer one should be plugged with something (i used a golf tee).

I connected a breather filter to the other opening. The cleaner air the better, right?
