R.V. Lifestyle ?

Post by PopeyeFAFL »

In a near future, I might be interested in traveling alone (USA + CANADA) for long period of time.I never own a R.V. (Recreational Vehicle), I'm looking at perhaps a Class B or C (like a Winnebage Rialta or something similar). For those of you, who did that (or still doing it), what are the pro's and con's (versus traveling with a small car and hitting hotel 8 for example) of this.Price ?, how much does it cost in a camping per night vs. small hotel (single occupation), also are you not handicapped when you have to visit a city, with all that outfit, insurance, depreciation, etc. Want to hear from people who give up, that lifestyle. What does the R.V. salemans, won't tell you ?Thanks in advance.

My parents have been RVing since I was in 6th Grade and now have a 36' King of The Road 5th wheel that they pull behind their dually and that thing is top notch..nicer inside than my house...lol. It only costs $15-25 a night to park at campgrounds with full hookup that are owned by the 'Army Corps of Engineers' which are most all state campgrounds now. My aunt and uncle have a class C Winnebage and they use it to go to Florida all the time from Springfield, Mo to visit the beaches and absolutely love it. Pros: FreedomScenerySpending time with familyenjoying the outdoorscheaper than hotelsCONS:Diesil pricesMotor Home RV's get3-5mpg if luckymay get cramped if you have a small ride and big familyIdiot drivers do not watch out for R.V.s----All in all, if you choose to start R.V.ing you will love it, and I would also advise looking at 5th wheels and a diesil dually as an option as well. Their 5th wheel has 4 slidouts on it for the bedroom, kitchen, and living area and makes it huge. After looking and looking with my dad when they picked their RV they have now they opted for the best 5th wheel on the market and a dually for the main pro/con of the dif types of RV's. With a motor home you are stuck with just that to drive unless you tow a car behind it, where with a 5th wheel its takes 5 minutes to drop the legs and pull out from under it and your set, and gas milage. Pulling that 5th wheel we get 13mph with an 02 chevy dually with the duramax and allison transmission. The 5thwheel+dually was still a few grand cheaper than most Motorhomes we looked at as well.
