I'm gonna buy something next week and I remember reading something abuot premium gas when you have nitrous? Is this true? I thought a base Vibe should not have premium gas?

If your going to be pushing that little red button, you better be running 91 or better. Otherwise Detonation might become a problem and possible kill your engine.

I'm not getting nitrous... That only answers half of my question though...I thought Base Vibes weren't suposed to run premium? Or is it more because they don't HAVE to run premium?

I remember a topic about this a long time ago, have to search around and find it.

There was a thread on NC.org i think about this, but running a 1zz on premium some ppl say they get better mileage some people say its not necessary. I just threw in 89oct only because it was the same price as the 87. I agree though, why run more expensive gas if you have no reason too, ie if you had FI then premium is good.
(removed)...I'll take what you've all said an make it into a direct "yes run premium with nitrous and having a 1zz doesn't matter." BTW I'm not getting nitrous
I'll take it a step further...The base (1ZZ) is fuel mapped for 87. At lower compression, this isn't an issue. The reason for using higher octane fuel is the prevention of knock (predetonation). The 2ZZ engine is mapped for 91 because of the higher compression ratio. Now, running 91 in the 1ZZ won't hurt the car - not at all. In fact, you shouldn't see a performance gain or a boost in mileage either. Basically, it just increments the cost of the fuel you burn.Running 87 in the 2ZZ shouldn't hurt it either. Thanks in large part to the ability of the cam timing to be advanced or retarded. The knock sensors should result in the appropriate timing adjustment. However, because the cams would be opening exhaust valves prematurely to reduce pressure (thanks to the knock sensors), you would experience a major loss of power. So moral of the story: Higher octane fuel in a vehicle won't hurt it. Lower octane fuel may result in less power, but also won't hurt it. So all you GTs out there fearing that wayward station that has only 87, don't worry about it. I just wouldn't make a habit of it.

yea what he said You know what i want to see, someone get a unichip and make a map for economy and see whats the highest mileage we can get out of the vibe.....

This is why retuning with a Unichip can give you more power, at the expense of mileage. However, the chances that tuning can give you better than factory mileage are slim to none.

I hear with FI and a good tune you can gain more mpg I just tell my parents that so they dont freak out on me when i come home with my car sounding different and modded out
i always run 93 octane even when im not spraying the nitrous ive ran it even since i got the car. (granted nitrous was my first mod)
look my sniggies, i had a strizz-oke in my brizz-ain okay, you know what im saying. so i cant move all good. but thanks for mentioning that .thank you very much.athf4evr. click here! you know you want to!!!
Thanks everyone I'll keep you updated...one more thing, if blowdown tube or whatever it's called nessisary(sp)? Will vibrations from my subwoofers affect the performance of the nitrous? I want to put the bottle right next to the subs becuase I don't have anywhere else for it.
In addition to high octane fuel, many of the nitrous kit manufacturers suggest colder plugs to further prevent detonation. Nitrous and detonation = bad... Other than maybe rattling loose fittings, don't think mounting the bottle beside your sub's a problem.Let us know how you make out.
a blowdown tube is required at most tracks.and usually recomended for hatckbacks so if your bottle pressure disk burst the nitrous will blow outside instead of filling up the passenger cabin. i have one its cheap insurance

(northvibe) yea what he saidYou know what i want to see, someone get a unichip and make a map for economy and see whats the highest mileage we can get out of the vibe.....I would take you up on that offer. I would like to do some testing to see how lean our engines will burn and still maintain normal combustion. It all depends on the type of system and application you use it on. If a computer is properly programmed you do not always have to sacrifice fuel economy for power. And yes sir you need to run the best pump fuel available to you if you are going to run nitrous. And no, like the gentleman above stated...It will not hurt your vehicle to run higher octane fuel.Chris Macellaro
Depending on how much N20 you are running pump gas may not even do it. I'm not sure how much juice you can put through the vibe's motor but if you start running a huge shot you may be better off with a stand alone system running race gas (or maybe at least 100+ from Delta Sonic or whatever is available above 93).Colder Plugs, Higher Octane, potentially less timing depending on the setup and shot size.Do people run wet or dry on the Vibe's?
(sorry if this is a dumb question)Is it wet because the injectors won't handle the need on the bottle or is that just what most people run? I assume the car still has a MAF sensor (??) which would read and adjust for the dry kit.
mafs sensors do not adjust for the additional air because the oxygen molecules of n2o are only released during combustion in the cylinders. most car has a return style fuel system and only those style cars most nitrous kits use a fuel pressure regulator the raises the pressure and adds more fuel on a nitrous run. our cars have returnless fuel system so theres no way to alter the pressure. so we use a wet kit to add the extra fuel.depending on mods the stock injectors can supply up to a 50 shot worth of extra fuel if you have some type of engine management computer to control the injectors during nitrous like the venom kit i have.

I wrote this up in another post. Working with nitrous will present the same issues as though you were supercharging or turbo charging the engine in that it will run much hotter.http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...96868
