How many people here drive with the windows down? I do unless I am on the High way or the temp is hot and humid and I am on the way/from work. I am not sure why I would need a filter.
2005 AWD What's your story? It's a wonderful thingMomma always said "Help that is not helpful, is no help at all"
My first car had a broken air conditioner compressor so I didn't have one for about 7 years. I only roll the windows down if it is below 80 degrees. I like my air conditioner.
I drive with my windows down all the time unless its snowing or raining....some of my friends think im crazy...i just think i like fresh air blowing through my hair..........
Well the filter is for in winter or when your windows are up and the AC or any kind of air is on to filter that air for you. I suppose you could remove it and run it that way too. Never done that on mine. I get new filters every year since they get nasty in a year!

I am expecting delivery of the replacement today.
most of my driving is at > 65mph so no, I don't roll with my windows down. And after 29k miles - my starch white filter was na-asty. Dead bugs, leaves, dust, dirt, gunk, and junk that I'm glad never made it to the hvac system. If you left your fan at OFF, then you wouldn't have to worry about it. Otherwise - the cabin air filter keeps your HVAC from getting "the ac funk", I don't think I would consider it an air filter for your direct benifit, indirectly it's wonderful not having a nasty hvac.I just wish they weren't so flimsy and a little cheaper.
