This is a good Wired article about how the high-end theft deterent systems don't really work.http://www.wired.com/wired/arc...set= Ignition keys equipped with signal-emitting chips were supposed to put car thieves out of business but that's just marketing.
That part about keys being inside of the books, is something that I believe my Mom is guilty of in her car. I'm going to go tell her about that now. Thanks for the info. Interesting stuff too.
This still does not mean you shouldnt get one. If someone wants your car bad enough nothing...and I do mean nothing will stop them. Alarm systems and the like are there to keep innocent people...well innocent. I would have to say that majority of crimes commited are crimes of opportunity.
Pulling the fuse has worked for me in the past. Just pulled the fuse which disabled the alarm and car started right up. This was done in a friend's car where the alarm wouldn't shut off.

The best theft deterent system is the letters "AWD" on the back of your Vibe. Apparently, the AWD Vibe is the second least stolen vehicle in America!Cougar Vibe
Agreed, if someone wants something bad enough, they'll get it. That's why they're called theft deterrent systems.I want to make it hard as hell to steal my car, or at the very least, very annoying to do so. If someone really wants it though, they'll get it. You should never have a false sense of security about that. Now go find someone with one of those keyless ignitions, and laugh at their false sense of security because their car 'can't be stolen'.

Cool article! Funny they made a mistake spelling BRAKE in that graphic when referring to the Civic's parking "break!" I never knew that some cars had ways to get around these systems built-in, crazy.
