Made a custom short ram heat shield...out of a battery cover!

Post by BlueCrush »

I used the battery cover from my 1993 Saturn SC2 and modified it into a heat shield for my Weapon-R Secret Intake. It is double walled plastic with an airspace so it was ideal to use for a heat shield. It took about 1 hour from idea to finished product! I even found a place for my Weapon-R badge. Here are some pics:The last pic also show the A/C mod we did at the Cabela's meet on Saturday. Thanks to northvibe for providing the A/C line insulation. This mod has helped to keep my intake air temps down especially above 3000rpm. I have noticed quicker acceleration above 3000rpm but nothing below that since it draws more air the higher the rpm's go. I have read that for every 10°F drop in intake temps you should see a 1hp increase in power. I don't know what the engine bay temps are typically but I would guess around 150°F. The outside temp today was 85°F during my test run, so that would equate to approx. a 6hp gain at the higher rpms.I love free hp mods!!!

I don't know, Nascar...it was pretty tricky. The guys did it to my car and I had to come in at the last minute and help. Seriously, they MADE me do the last two twist ties so I could say I did it.

I was thinking the same (ghetto) at first. Just gotta clean the edges up with a dremel and sand paper. Have to do something about the black tape, too. I bet if you paint averything (engine cover, fusebox cover, air cover) then it would look a lot nicer!Clever idea though!

I plan on keeping it black and unpainted.

What are the possibilities of fabricating something off that for sale to Genvibe members? Ive never worked with Fiberglass but I could have sworn its not tooo difficult to work with.

You shouldn't need a heat shield for the CAI. It is already drawing cooler air from down behind the fog light.

If your concerned about water then you should look into the AEM CAI bypass valve: http://www.cardomain.com/shopl...oriesYour not really going to get any cooler air than you are now.

Depends on the brand. Some are 3" and some are 2.75" or 2.5". You will have to measure yours to get the correct one.

I also tried to get one off Ebay and the seller ended up refunding my money because he could not get one either. Do you have a link to the seller on Ebay? I am curious to see it when it arrives. It is a short ram so I don't see why not. Unless there are extra hoses that need to be hooked up for the GT.The 1ZZ only has one hose going to the intake. What does your GT have?
