Just bought a '06 Vibe, and its been in the shop more days than I've driven it. Airbag light on control panel stays on after starting the car. First time they replaced wiring and cleared the code, only for it to come back on again. Now they say its the side airbag and we need a new seat, which is on backorder for 2 weeks. Anyone else have this problem? I am contemplating Lemon law, since soon it will be 30 days out of service.
WELCOME TO OUR VIBEDOM!!!I'm not aware of any airbag complaints or issues. It sounds the dealer is at least making an atempt to make it right. Backordered parts always stinks. This is taken right from the Wisconson DOT site HERE. I hope it helps your situation. Wisconsin's lemon lawIf the motor vehicle you buy or lease turns out to be a "lemon," the manufacturer has to replace it free or refund the price (minus a reasonable amount for mileage). What is a "lemon"?A new vehicle - no more than a year old and still under warranty - is a "lemon" if * It has a serious defect the dealer can't fix in four tries, or * It has one or many defects that prevent you from using it for 30 days or more (the 30 days need not be consecutive)What is a defect?A defect covered by the Lemon Law must seriously affect the use, value or safety of your vehicle and must be covered by the warranty. An irritating rattle may not be "serious" enough to make your car a lemon. Stalling probably is.What vehicles are covered? The law covers any new car, truck, motorcycle or motor home you buy or lease, even if you register the vehicle in another state. It also covers a demonstrator or executive vehicle. How long are you covered? The lemon law includes no deadline for filing a lemon law suit; a court would decide if your case were too old. Is your vehicle a lemon?Your vehicle is a lemon if all of the following statements are true: * You bought or leased a new vehicle. * The vehicle is a car, truck, motorcycle or motor home. * The vehicle developed a defect or defects during its first year and before the warranty expired. * The defect seriously harms the vehicle's use, value or safety. * One of the following happened during the vehicle's first year and before the warranty expired: o The dealer failed four times to fix the same defect; OR o The vehicle was out of service for 30 days or more due to defects
I haven't had any problems with side or other airbags. Seeing as how this is an important part of vehicle safety, I'd say go for whatever it takes to be comfortable that everything is right with your vehicle. You paid for side airbags, seems kinda crazy to tell you they can't fix for 2 weeks - go drive around without the protection!

Goodness! I 'm very sorry to hear the bad luck you're having and the runaround you're getting in the process. I'd say start pursuing the lemon law thing, it sounds like a viable option for you in your state. Safety systems are kinda vital, and if they can't seem to get things resolved it is time to take it up a notch. And if they can't fix the car, you shouldn't have to drive it either. I hope they aren't having you drive it around with malfunctioning air bags while you wait for parts, hopefully the dealer has more concern for your safety than that.Good luck to you! And stay safe!

Not to point out an obvious problem, since god knows if your dealer can't eliminate this they're worthless, but when I had the vibe and used to work on it, if you start the car and any of the airbags are simply disconnected, it triggers the SIR system light.Perhaps between owners someone corrected another problem, disconnected an airbag, and never reconnected it...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

They also already replaced the wiring.
