Tint problem..... tint is being scratched

Post by 03vibeowner »

hi I was wondering if this is a common problem..... I got tint done and within like 2 times I rolled down the window it scratched the tint on the drivers side window and the passengers side front windows...... it really sucked on the passengers side it actually scratched a piece off and on the drivers side it just scratched off the coloring alittle anyone have any idea what the problem is and how to solve it...... I was thinking it might be when the window rolls all the way down a mechanism that locks the window into place if you would like I will take picture and post them..... thanks

How long after you got the tint did you roll down the windows, and was it warm and sunny?

well, i will tell you that it's probably from the motors in your power windows. mine did that on the driver's side window only. no problems with the new car though. maybe it's part of the window issue the vibe seems to have.

You're not hearing any clunking, clicking, snapping, popping, etc. when rolling the windows down, are you? I had some issues with the windows on mine, the window shifted in its track on the way back up and when the window was about halfway up, it ripped chunks out of the tint in several places. If you've had any weird noises, I'd suggest going to the dealer to have them fix the windows before trying anything else. How are the little felt strips that are between the door panels and the window? Usually the tint guys jam those down so the strips won't rub against the window. Are they down or up? It shouldn't matter either way, every car I had tinted, the first time I roll them down, I work them back up to their normal position. But, maybe they were contributing somehow to your issues. These are held to the door panels by sharp metal pieces (they kinda resemble staples or something similar to me) that fold over to keep them in place... I can't recall whether they can come in contact with the glass or not, but if they can and one isn't bent in far enough maybe it scrapes the glass. I dunno... You may try to remove the door panels and check those. If the felt stuff is rubbing the glass, make sure there isn't anything stuck to them that may cause the scratching.Do you know what brand of film they used, by the way? You shouldn't have had issues as far as not waiting long enough, up here I've waited about 2 days and I've never had a bit of trouble. Being down where you are, it should be thoroughly baked on by a day or two, I'd think.Good luck to you! Hopefully those that did the tint will be willing to cover re-tints on those windows once you figure it out.

well, when mine did the same thing, there was no sounds of scraping or clunking. it was like it caught the film and just tore a hole where the track was. can you take any pics??

Well it will be apparent what scratched it after you remove the door panel...just line up the scratch with the offending item. Here is a little how-to on taking the panel off, it is very easy.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=24086
