From Plastic to Monotone

I purchased my Vibe in Satellite with the charcoal grey bottom and door handles. I liked it at the time but now I don't. Is it possible for them to change mine from what I have to the nicer Monotone Style that way my Vibe is all one color and doesn't look cheezy?

Rob is right. It will cost a lot of money for new parts and to have them primed and painted. You can check with the body shop at the dealer, but I'm thinking you are not going to be thrilled with the price. The body kit that is coming out is going to be in the neighborhood of $2000 after the purchase of your Vibe. So you know it will be close to that if you add the door handles and the piece above the license plate.

I liked it at the time so that's why I didn't get the Monotone.

I know that but I really liked it better that way at the time. Since I liked it that much, I never would have thought I'd change my mind.

What kind do you have? Do you have the Monotone or Plastic? What's this "Silver Lining" you're talking about?

Maybe I should just quit being picky and be happy I even have a new car huh? I love my Vibe but I just look at the bottom color and think, I should've had it all one color. I think once I tint the windows and get the spoiler (that I want OH SO BADLY) it'll look a lot better and I'll be satisfied then. Thanks for all of your help!

OH DEFINITELY JUST THE TOP ONE! What's up with the one in the middle? Looks so cheezy and weird! Never would even dare think to get that one! Yep, just the top one buddy! Speaking of spoilers, do you know when they're supposed to come out and also if we can purchase them separtely (for those of us that only want one)?

Probably would be better to get a new Vibe altogether than go through the hassle of having the cladding painted to your liking. You would have to worry about quality of the paint job and the lifespan of the paint considering it is not factory (not saying factory is the best ever). Gee, how disappointing. Three MODERATORs all giving similar but wrong information - sorry guys you blew it with this one.I had a Festiva that had the grey bumpers front and rear that were similar material and texture to the cladding on the Vibe. Took it to a body shop and had them painted to match the body color (and added a rear spoiler and side "ground effect" spats). That was 10 years ago next month. Saw the car last month and the bumpers still look great (the rest of the car is starting to show it's age though)!Done PROPERLY using good primer, and with flex agent added to the primer & paint, it's almost like factory. The texture of the plastic mostly gets smoothed out by the primer and paint. It is still there if you look close - most people will never notice.I didn't have the concern with the color of the door handles since my car was black and so were the door handles but I'd guess you'd have similar good luck with painting them.It WILL cost more than the $325 extra when done at the factory when new but should easily be under $1k if done on the car (removing the cladding, then painting and reinstalling it will provide a better job but of course will cost more). I would suggest waiting and adding the sport appearance package at the same time if you are considering it at all.If you really like the monotone better (and I certainly do!) get a free quote from a body shop then you can decide if it's worth the cost to make it look the way you want it.

I never said any aftermarket shop couldn't match the quality of the factory work, there is a factor you have to consider when comparing quality and pricing. You get what you pay for... unless you have a hook-up at a body shop. My opinion is so because I have seen my share of shoddy paint jobs.. even with highly reputable shops. Mine is a 2-tone satellite and I'm glad. I like it for the protection. No paint chips from rocks or paint damage for people who parallel park by feel (back up until they hit something than stop). My wifes minivan (and her two previous cars) had a similar feature where the front and rear bumpers were unpainted.
