ragingfish is August 2006 GenVIbe Member of the Month (MOTM)

Post by joatmon »

ragingfish is GenVibe Member of the Month for August 2006What can you say about Mike, and his contributions to genvibe? Lots, apparently. So far he has received the most nominations of anyone, some of these are the best nominations yet: Here they are in chronological order:Quote, originally posted by "October 4, 2005" »Name: RagingFishReason:He is about to trade the Vibe, but I feel he should be honored for his helpful attitude, and his willingness to DESTROY his car to find ways to mprove the Vibe. He has almost always shared all the information (good and bad) with us with lots of pictures, descriptions, ect.Quote, originally posted by "October 4, 2005" »Name: ragingfishReason:Because he's a great friend and a great asset to this site. He has contributed a lot of information and how-to's in the last few years, and he really deserves recognition.Quote, originally posted by "October 6, 2005" »Name: ragingfishReason:He starts some interesting threads and isn't afraid to correct me when I'm wrong. He seems to be an important member to the community - even though he's trading in his VibeQuote, originally posted by "October 16, 2005" »Name: ragingfishReason:always willing to share his mods with documented how-tos on basic stuff - like taking apart the radio trim, center dash area, and dash top - that are frequently referenced and the basis for many other users modsQuote, originally posted by "October 27, 2005" »Name: ragingfishReason:Sorry for the late submission; I hope others will participate in this late hour. My first choice for nomination would be joatmon, but since he is not a legal consideration, my next nomination would be ragingfish. I think Mike has been through a lot recently, so maybe this could be considered a sympathy vote. But he has over 10,000 posts, been one of the oldest members of Genvibe, participates as a member in good standing as well as being a moderator, and has been a great asset to our community. I have enjoyed and gained knowledge and experience from his many postings. I especially appreciate his freedom of expression and sharing of his knowledge and experiences. He comes across genuine and helpful. I think it is sad that a few members have ripped into him lately (edit - reference to deleted thread removed). And with Mike's recent accident with his new car, this period of his life has to be a low point. Hopefully a nomination might add a little sunshine, somewhat for his recent troubles, but mostly for all of his welcome participation in Genvibe. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity!Quote, originally posted by "November 13, 2005" »Name: ragingfishReason:1) He was a Vibe Pioneer 2) He was always willing to try new things, and then show us how to (or how NOT to) do it. 3) Nice all around person, always polite when asking for information. 4) Minus one point he jumped ship!!!Quote, originally posted by "November 17, 2005" »Name: ragingfishReason:One of the pillars of the genvibe community, his posts on modding how-to are legendary. (well, frequently referenced, thorough, and plentiful)Quote, originally posted by "December 13, 2005" »Name: RagingfishReason:All those great mod how-to's, the Ultimate Parts List, answering questions, and generally being a stand-up memberQuote, originally posted by "June 20, 2006" »Name: ragingfishReason:This is more of a sympathy vote, but considering his great participation in the past and his ongoing trials lately, I will nominate ragingfish for consideration in the MOTM. His articles on modding his Vibe are still very active and useful, especially his tutorial on taking off the dash, which has helped me greatly in resolving some of the squeeks and rattles in my Vibe. And, of course, GenVibe is more than just Vibes. It is the personal touches that make this site so special. Ragingfish's openness in his dealings in life gives us an appreciation of what we have or may go through, and how he gets through it all is inspiration for all of us. I cannot help but believe he will become a much better experienced person because of this, and by sharing will help us also. Thanks!Mike's first post here was a clue, nobody suspected it at the time, but a hardcore mod maniac had arrived. When I signed on here at genvibe about 5 months later, ragingfish was one of the two (the other was silverawd26) that made me feel like part of the in-crowd, right from the beginning, and set the tone of the forum, something really special about this place to have such people in it. Mike's pure unbridled enthusiasm and total lack of fear was contagious. He'd see a post where some one would ask how to remove or modify some part of the car, and if he didn't know, he go rip the guts out of his own to find out, then post back with procedures, pics, and level of difficulty ratings, and alternate sources for any parts required. He made genvibe seem like the kind of place where it was normal to go out of your way to help out a stranger, and to turn strangers into friends. Mike, you may no longer have the Vibe, but I am glad you are still around this place..-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-In July, there were two MOTM nominations, one for ArcsVibe, and one for NascarXprt. These two are automatically entered into the September and October contests. In June, there were nominations for ArcsVibe, Mrizzle05, ragingfish, silverawd26, and trdvibe. These are automatically entered into the September contest (except Mike, this month's winner)In May, the sole nomination was for Colonel Panic, which entered him into the June, July, and August contests, but does not carry over into the September contest unless renominated. To those who have been nominated but have not yet won, winners are randomly selected from nominees, so be honored to have been nominated, Thanks to all of you for making this such a great place Nominations are done by filling in the simple Genvibe MotM Ballot form. MotM contest rules, and additional discussions about the Member of the Month process are in and should be posted in the MotM Discussion Thread. In case you missed the previous winner's threads, in addition to this month's winner, there have been these nine previous Genvibe Members of the Month:BlueCrush - July 2006GMJAP - June 2006Kari - May 2006ZubenElGenubi - April 2006POLO - March 2006MIVibe-ToolGuy - February 2006NSimkins - January 2006tnpartsguy - December 2005jahntassa - November 2005

Mike, you may no longer have the Vibe, but I am glad you are still around this place..I couldn't agree more! No one member here deserves this honor more than you, Mike...that's why you were the first person I ever nominated, way back in October. I have truly enjoyed meeting you at rallies, hanging out, and chatting...you are a great person and truly an asset to this community and definitely one of the people who made me feel super welcome when I first came to this site. CONGRATULATIONS MIKE!

Wow, I'm truly touched. Not only by being honored with the MOTM award, but also by reading those nominations.I truly appreciate everyone's nominations and I'm so happy to know I've truly contributed THAT much to the community.I do still miss the vibe whenever I pass one, and certainly the ease with which is was to massacre , but as has been said in the past, sometimes one must move on, no matter how painful, or how wrong it may look, if it feels right, you gotta do it.Thank you again everyone.I might add that despite my G6 ownership, I frequent GVC far more then I ever do the G6 forums...If I could purchase a lifetime membership, I would! I look forward to seeing many of you at Columbus...

Mike, I'm so glad you've got some recognition. I recall when I first arrived here too, I always enjoyed seeing you around because in the middle of a bunch of strangers, there was a friendly face. You've been a tremendous help to us all at some point or another, whether you realize it or not. Congratulations, you've earned it. I hope to see you at Columbus, my friend!

Congratulations, ragingfish!I know I've personally benefited from your articles -- the Hella horn installation being one, for example. As stated earlier, you may have moved on as an owner, but your expertise is still a presence here.Quote, originally posted by ragingfish »If I could purchase a lifetime membership, I would! Well, I thought I would add something here. Just yesterday, one of the bulbs on my Vibe burnt out, and thanks to ragingfish's excellent thread on replacement bulbs, I was able to quickly find a replacement bulb.I met Mike last winter to purchase his nearly-new snow tires and rims from his former Vibe. They were fairly expensive tires (Green Diamonds), and he was willing to sell them to me at a great loss. He made arrangements for me to pick them up, supplied me a great lunch at no cost from his restaurant, and allowed me to use his cell phone to plan my next pick-up item for the Vibe. He even gave me a few leftover goodies from his Vibe. Also, the tires were well marked with the mileage and what postion they were installed on the Vibe.I have enjoyed reading all of Mike's postings and adventures on this site, and hope that he continues to be an active contributing member here.Thank you, Mike, for everything! God Bless!
