tranny fluid

Post by melders »

how often is the transmission supposed to be flushed? i took my vibe in for an oil change this morning, and i asked how much it would cost. the guy looked at me weird and said why? i told him its got 50,000 and it needs to be done. he said nope, its 100,000. i thought for sure it was 50, can someone back that up?also, while he was getting all my information, he goes you have the extended warranty right? i said yea...i dont know what that was for. the guy seemed kinda crazy anyways...i was at a different dealer than from where i bought it, cuz oil change is cheaper at the other place..and it is a pontiac dealer

60k miles under rough conditions (towing, hilly areas, etc). For normal driving it is 100k. I'd still recommend you do the flush now, though. After that I'd just drop the plug every 30k miles and add new.

The guy told me every 30 k miles too. He then imeddiately snapped back with "I'll do it for u now?" with a slight grin on his face. Of course I know better then to drop $180 when I still have 20k miles left till it has to be done again. lol. But the little rat wouldn't stop trying to convince me of how crucial it is for it to be changed soon. I just wanted to tell him that I know that and he should stop trying to take advantage of me.(I'm only 16)All in all, make sure u don't get it done unless you know it has to be done. That fluid is pricey stuff. lol

I had mine done around 40k miles. The tech said it took him over 8 qts to flush the crap out of my tranny. Then again I do drive a little 'spirited'.

I put the universal Amsoil fluid in mine when I got it flushed. Cost me about 130$ for the fluid (yikes). The shifting issues I had didn't really improve at all and I just figured that's how the tranny works. The Amsoil will last a lot longer than other fluids and withstand more heat, so I found it to be worth it.
