Is the '05 M&T 1-Disc CD "Satellite Ready"?

Post by new05vibeowner »

I saw that Crutchfield is now selling the Sirius tuners which interface to the factory headunit. On their website, I plugged in the info from my 05 (1-CD, M&T and no nav) and the site tells me it'll work IF the unit is "satellite ready." Called Crutchfield, and they can't tell me any more than "it'll work if the head unit is satellite ready". Was there any difference in the head unit if XM was factory installed, or is it the same HU? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-7...IRGM1

Is there a visible difference on the head units?

Not sure on the differences but there is no sign of being XM on mine visually and mine is XM ready. Here is a pic of mine:

You may want to wait. Mine arrived yesterday; I have a 2005 with a head unit that looks just like the one in the photo BlueCrush posted. My car is also pre-wired for satellite radio.I've tried EVERYTHING...checked connections, checked for power with a volt meter, you name it...and the thing doesn't work. Crutchfield is sending a new one once they are again available, but you might want to let someone else be the guinea pig.

Thanks for the heads-up. I wasn't willing to be a guinea pig for Crutchfield by buying it, tearing my dash apart, and discovering it doesn't work. Please advise if you have better luck with the replacement. Thanks!

If your radio has a "BAND" button it is XM ready. If it has an "AM/FM" button instead, it is not. However, I'm not sure "XM ready" equates to generally "satellite ready", meaning also Sirius.

Crutchfield didn't do anything except sell the SiriusConnect SIR-GM1 that was engineered by Directed Electronics. It interfaces directly with the GM Class II data bus:http://www.sirius.com/servlet/...70950It's supposed to be plug and play, replacing the XM box and feeding similar data to the bus, which then goes to the head unit. The thing that's going to be tricky for us Vibe owners is that our cars really don't use the Class II bus, but the single disc head unit with a "BAND" button is designed to accept the same data as the Class II vehicles. This way, GM is able to use SOME off-the-shelf GM peripherals.Or that's how it's supposed to work. I'll let you guys know if the replacement box works.

Did you ever get this to work, or have you given up?
