Hope nobody ends up with this one!

Post by Rouse »

Found this picture while looking for Vibe pictures. I don't think that dealers or salvage yards should be able to sell cars like this. My brother in law bought a 1995 Volkswagen Golf that had been in a similar accident but didn't know that the car was written of by the insurance company of the previous owner. When he went through his first set of tires relatively quickly he took it into a Volkswagen dealer. Only then did he find out that the car had been in a major accident and that the front tires could never be aligned properly again. He bought the car form an Acura dealership. Man did I feel bad for him. There was nothing he could do about it though. I think today you have to have a history from the MTO if you buy a car privately. I don't think you have to have on if you buy from a dealership though???

Oh and I forgot to say hi everyone. I just got my Vibe on the 3rd of this month and I love it. I was about to buy my third Volkswagen when I walked onto the local GM lot and there it was. The dealers son had ordered it and was tired of the 5 month wait. He ended up buying a Sunfire and I ended up buying his car as they were unloading it off of the truck. It wasn't even in stock yet and it already had 3 couples looking at it. Yoink! That ones mine.

Welcome to Genvibe Ontario person!Describe your car. What options were on it? My first and only search from MTO was when I sold my car. see http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/used.htm It doesn't say anything about accident records though. You need good luck when you buy used. It would be nice to have known the car it's whole life. Just buy from friends, neighbours and relatives There is a silver AWD vibe here in my city that has it's front end crunched, sitting in a lot marked REPAIRABLE. Ouch

hey rouse, welcome aboard!!! i just have to comment on buying totals/wrecks....we had a body shop up until a year ago and we rebuilt a few vehicles...for one thing the guy doing the repair work has to be honest...its HIS responsibility to pull the frame so that it is correct in all measurements...its HIS job to replace damaged parts w/oem or like parts and ensure that all electrical/mechanical systems are operating to standards set by the manufacturer....we NEVER sold a car WITHOUT telling the buyer what was wrong and what was repaired...we never had any compliants about our rigs, in fact most of the 6 vehicles we own used to be totals and you couldnt tell it....the acura dealer should have known that it was previously totaled, he wasnt very honest either...there are lots of good, honest bodymen who do excellent work and only build and sell vehicles that they would trust to put their babies in...unfortunately the ones that are bad damage the reputation of the whole industry but its hard for the average person to tell what's a good repair and whats bad "cause so much is hidden under the "tin", frosty is right..buy form who you trust or get it checked out beforehand i'm sorry for your brother..is there anyway he can go back on the dealer for financial compensation?

Ya, welcome to the group. I am up to 3500KMS (also a Canadian) and love it more every day. Even my two VW worshippers love the Vibe. They instantly accepted me to the cool sporty wagon/hatchback/van/mini SUV type vehicle club. Super handy vehicle, fun to drive and I get tonns of compliments on the style too.
Shadow two tone, 5 speed, 16" alloys, power group, ABS safety group, 6CD, 200watt. Love the car.

quote:Welcome to Genvibe Ontario person!Describe your car. What options were on it? I finally got some pictures of my car. My wife and I had originally picked the car in the same colour, but with a sunroof, power windows and 16" alloys. But when we heard that it would be 4-5 months to get one, we didn't feel like putting $500 down at the time and waiting. On March first I walked into the dealership to let the salesman know that I was looking again, he said that the had one come in that the owners son had ordered but got tired of waiting for. It was the same colour, but with monotone paint. So other than the paint the car is base, but I didn't want to wait for another 5 months so I said I'd take it before they even had it off the truck. I was in it and lovin it buy the 3rd!!!

Welcome Rouse to genvibe.com. Sharp looking monotone, also like your first pic with the artwork in the background.

Very nice Rouse! Excellent color choice! (I might be a bit biased there though). My Vibe purchase was kind of the same story, actually earily similar. Must be a shadow thing. I went to the dealership and told the salesman I wouldn't buy unless they had one with the monotone paint and a navigation system. I could see they didn't but I wanted to drive one and see what it was like. Long story short, they gave me a deal on one that a dealer had ordered and the order fell through, so I bought it. I didn't feel like waiting to order just for a few more options either. I haven't looked back.

At least it looks like it took a side impact pretty well. There have been pics posted on this site before of frontal impacts, but never of the side. They always held up really well from the front impacts, looks like it's pretty solid from the sides as well.
