Post by zionzr2 »

I am becomming very dissattisfied with my current ISP.I'm starting to look at other options for high speed internet and wanted a little feed back from you folks. What type do you have? (cable/DSL)What speed you Have if greater than 1.5MB/s download. How much it runs a month? When there are repeated 12+ hour outtages with no way to call support b/c no one will answer or hang up on you while on hold is UNACCEPTABLE!!

I have cable (Roadrunner) that is 6 mbps download in the summer and about 3 when it gets congested during the school year. I'm getting a special deal through the university where it is $22/month. (It still keeps going up though...it was $17.50 when I first moved in and has increased twice in the last year...heh.) I like it though...I can only remember one major outage and that was just a few hours.

I pay $103.00 for ISP and Basic cable. but I'll never go back to dial-up. my father inlaw has DSL thru Verizon its not bad but not as fast as cable. Ft. Wayne is a test market for Fiber Optic thru verizon I've hear its faster than cable but I haven't seen it yet.

I just switched to AT&T DSL for $12.99 a month. The special price goes for a year... I don't know what it will be after the year is up.

LOL. you guys complain all you want about your internet costs and speeds! $54.98/mo for 1.5 Mbps on my Clearwire system. INTERNET ONLY. We're paying $92 (after taxes) for CABLE TV with 6 HDTV channels ONLY. NO HBO, no showtime, or any other movie packages or special channels. that's right! $55 for internet and $92 for TV!!!! so you all quit your freaking whining! to get a 6 Mbps cable system up here, you'd be paying aobut $200/mo for it and only get MAYBE 2 Mbps actual speeds. DSL was even worse! best you could get was 1.0 Mbps for $69.99 + taxes = $92/mo! and i MAYBE got 600-800 Kbps on average... that's only 60-80% of the speed I'm paying for!Granted, I work for Clearwire, obviously I'd be biased. However, one of the main factors of my wanting to work for them was because i was sick (and still am) tired of the big boys RAPING us on service and cost! the only reason our rates are as high as they are is because we have to pay our competitor for the back haul to Seattle. they are charging us an insane rate because they are the ONLY game in town! total monopoly! however, i still like our service far better than the big boys. it's faster, more reliable, and hell, i can TAKE IT WITH ME! which is why i have a set up and car pc in the car! it's freaking sweet! no limits on bandwidth use or caps, and if they have service in other areas I'm going to, i can TAKE IT WITH ME!!! yep, that's right... it goes where i go and i don't have to screw with roaming fees. once we get our VOIPP up and running here, we'l really be a main competitor to the Big Boys here in town. my hatred for them spurs me to do well...

You quit your freaking whining, you get freaking paid to live where you freaking live! And your freaking gas right now is thirty freaking cents less than what it is here in freaking beautiful, sunny Craphole, Indiana! hahahaha! Seriously though, you should consider dumping television, you don't need that crap anyway! TV bites the big one, I eliminated that garbage from my life years ago and couldn't be happier. There, almost a hundred bucks more a month you could put towards something actually meaningful. I highly recommend giving it a try. If you really must have TV, maybe put up an outside antenna and watch PBS. And I guess whatever else comes FREE over the airwaves. lol!Anywho, as far as the internets go, I'm using the cheapest AT&T package, signed up when it was SBC for $16.99 a month for 6 months then something like $29 after that. I don't know about the speed, it is good enough considering I was a hardcore dial-up user until this spring. The $12.99 deal with AT&T as mentioned above is sweeter - cheaper and lasts longer. Those asshats, always coming out with better deals after they lock me into stuff!

I live in northern MN so all i have to choose from is clearwire, charter or qwest dsl. Charter cable internet = 3mbps down30kbps up50 dollars a month w/o modem rentalqwest dsl (having a special sign up right now)7mbps download1mbps upload40 dollars a month with purchase of modem for 40 after shipping (normally 70 for modem)Clearwire = i have no idea what it is here.Down in the cities my parents have comcast, I havent tested the new speed now that we are on digital but it used to be5mbps down30kbps upCable has craptastic uploads usually thats why I went with dsl this year, i was sick of having my ps2 games lag online last year sharring internet with 4 other people.OH and yea qwest has been SUPER helpful when I call them. I recommend them, Charter on the other hand... i swear if i had a internet gun.. jk. but I would call and i would be calling the wrong state! even though I called the phone number from my bill. I would get transfered around 5 times then hung up on or a voicemail. It took 1 week to cancel my charter internet... just rediculous

Those asshats, always coming out with better deals after they lock me into stuff! you pay more than $3/gallon for 90?? that BLOWS!and if i could cut out the TV then i would. however, the only reason we have it is because Mav wants it and can't live without his G4 or Speed channels... therefore, $92/mo isn't negotiable. This is the first time i've paid to have TV because in the past I always felt it was a giant waste of money. still do... i'm never even home to enjoy it. we have a DVR to record shows, but then i don't seem to have the time to go back and watch any episodes i miss. so i usually end up having to wait til it comes out on DVD, no commercials, extras, etc. then i can watch them in order and figure out what the heck is going on! LOLand as for getting paid to live here, i hardly call $800-900 for the year something to pack all your things and move! keep in mind, i bet you pay much less for your rent/housing, food, clothing, TRAVEL, shipping, or anything else that costs to live there. you MIGHT pay a tad more for gas than we do, it's very doubtful if you compare octane for octane. we cannot get more than 90 octane and our Regular Unleaded is 87, not 88.5 or 90 like most other states or locations. that means, for vehicles like mine, it's 90 octane PLUS octane booster like Torco due to my mods and ECM set up. granted, usually the pay will also coincide with the COLA factor, unless you happen to work for a large corporation who doesn't seem to understand that and why they can't keep or hire any decent employees. to pay $55/mo for 1.5 mbps is cheap compaired to the $99/mo for a 3.0 Mbps package with bandwidth limits. plus, the cable co here will lock you into a "bundle" so you think you're actually getting a better deal, when in fact you end up spending MORE money.

I think 87 is regular where I live in Ohio, and in TN...pretty sure it is where he is too, and it's been hovering around the $3 mark for several weeks now. I think it's $2.99 now. Time Warner Western Ohio's "special" rate that you get for three months on the All-in-One bundle (digital cable, roadrunner, and digital phone) is $99.95/month for 3 months. I wonder what it is when that three months runs out...

I use roadrunner with the cable package I pay $41.95/mo for just the internet service. I had Earthlink before, and used to pay $44.95/mo.
