I always noticed that the windows in the Vibe have a lot of play. Of they are open and I shut the door the whole window rattles and sounds like it wants to break. I can physically move the windows back and forth with my hands. The other day I was opening the driver door and a gust of wind caught it and threw it back. I heard a crack but everything looked fine and the door shut fine. Now when the door is shut and I put down the window when it gets half way down it either screeches or makes a cracking sound. If I put the window down when the door is open it is perfectly fine. What do you guys think? How hard is it to take apart the door and when I do that what should I look for or what can I tinker with to tighten the window more. Thanks!
If you dont have a warranty, im not sure if they had a recall. This is a known issue with it like exploding in the door or getting stuck part way. The door panel should have a couple screws and then you have to take off the triangle piece by the mirror and then it should have clips going around the door panel that need to be popped off to take the door panel off.
The loose, floppy window thing is apparently how Toyota wanted things, they're all like that to some degree, why I don't know... But the later part of your post... DOOR CHECK! I think I heard someone say Toyota said you shouldn't let gusts of wind blow the doors open, they didn't design the doors to handle that sort of thing. LOL!There are bolts that hold the door check in that may have backed out. But more than likely, you'll need a new door check. There are revised door checks out for these issues, they're shorter than the original ones from what my dealer told me.However, good luck getting your issue resolved with it making noise with the door in one position but not in the other... My Vibe was doing just that but they couldn't ever figure it out even after replacing everything in the door pertaining to the window that they could replace. The glass hits them on the way down when they get loose or bent out of shape, methinks. Hopefully your dealer is actually competent and can figure it out, mine sure couldn't after over a month's worth of weekly visits.Do get this addressed ASAP though, as this can lead to your window EXPLODING. That's kinda dangerous!I hope everything works out for you man... Been there, done that, it isn't fun!

If you open your door and look somewhere in the middle, you'll see a flat piece that bolts onto the body and the other end goes through the door. That's your door check, its job is to make sure the door can't fling wide open and smack your front fenders. That is probably the culprit. If not that, the window regulator. If not that, I dunno, I would have loved to know the answer months ago myself! Here's a little something on the issue if you have time to kill. It's sounding somewhat like a broken record though.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... ?id=4421If you're under warranty, see what the dealer has to say about it. Might have to let them know there are TSB's and new parts available. The new and improved door check part numbers, at least according to what the dealer put on my Vibe when I had it:LF: 88937010RF: 88937009

Wow, I didn't remember seeing any of these post when I've had my problem. I have had my Vibe in for both front windows twice now. And the driver side is doing it again, but the dealer won't take the time to look at it since it out of warranty. BULL****. Has there been any reports of the window actually shattering when putting the window down, and if so why hasn't GM or Toyota made a recall on it. Sounds pretty dangerous if your riding down the road and you put your window down and it shatters. Plus would this fall under the lemon law, not sure who is aware of this) here in PA. Funny they can't make the 03 the same as my wife's 04.
