maybe there are a few of you who own non-pontiac/gm vehicles on the side, this info is for you....my company runs a fleet of ford 1 ton passenger vans, cars and cargo vans...there seems to be a design defect with the head gasket(s) of the 5.4 v8 triton engine that causes oil to leak, sometimes excessively...the right side is the first gasket to go and can let fail as early as 25,000 miles but most common is around 50,000 to 60,000...if you or anyone you know is experiencing this problem, call ford customer assistance...ford is not recalling these engines but do have tsb's out on them....ford is very aware of the situation but is refusing to admit the problem...my dealership wanted 1400 dollars to pull the engine to replace this gasket at 58,000 miles...i called ford motors assistance program and now pay 250.00 for the entire repair...dont let them get off the hook on this as it is a very common problem and most customers just pay for the fix rather than fight it...FYI
