Electrical Smell

Post by disco277 »

Greetings Vibers,Twice in the last week I've noticed an electrical type smell coming from my vents while driving to work in the morning. When I go home at night I never have smelt anything.Temperature gauge seems ok and everything seems ok, but ever since I had a lamp burst into flames years ago that smell has always irked me a little.Anyone have any ideas, suggested actions?

Could it be a slight mildew scent from the AC evaporator coil? This would be strongest in the morning.Have you tried sniffing around under the hood as soon as you notice it? Have you tried the outside air, verses recirc position on your hvac?Is there an electrical componet that you use in the AM and not in the PM?Are you tired of questions yet????Maybe we can track it down.

Well I almost always shut off AC and fan before shutting off the car. I don't use AC or fan in the morning either.I lifted the hood this morning and sniffed around. The smell didn't seem to be near the rad but near the engine block proper. I'd like to say it was close to the alternator, but can't say for sure. Also the fact that I'm no mechanic doesn't help. The only thing I can think of otherwise is that it did rain last night but I can't remember if had rained the first time I got the smell.
